Well, got about as much as I could outta the sport before she's scrapped, even found a tenners worth of fuel in the tank.

Armed only with my imagination, I quickly set about syphoning the fuel using the windscreen washer pipes.

I love it when a plan comes together!!

(I don't, however, endorse syphoning of any kind. Or drinking petrol for that matter!! :nono: )

this makes 2 of us... I was working on a more council-esq runabout namely a dohc sierra.
Being so council and it's imminent trip to the yard of scrap I decided that a screwdriver and hammer was the quickest and easiest way to empty what I tought was £10 worth of go go juice.. more like 25litres!!!
I think this alone was the value in the car!

screwdriver and hammer

Thats a bit too risky for me. Knowing my luck the screwdriver would've created a spark, and the car would have stripped itself!! (in a ball of flames! )

ive got a mate who works in a breakers yard and needed some fuel for his type r, being a proffesional he had a pump that ran off the battery, something went wrong and in the end he burnt out a lovely calibra a 2 year old s class merc and a fiesta, he,s lucky to have his eybrows and is now very friendly with grantham fire bregade. so the morel of the story boys and girls is sparks and petrol dont go very well, like rail track and railway track.

Believe it or not, you can drive your car using the washer pump (as long as you dont go over 2K rpm)

thats the hard way !!
I cut the wires from the fuel pump and also attached a piece of rubber hose to the f/pump outlet and then wired the pump directly to a live and pumped it out using the pump.Easy ! i also got 2 fuel cans full :)

I scrapped a rover 620 (yes I know, shame on me) once, It had a full tank in it. Me and a mate jacked it up, found a rusty spot on the tank (not hard to do on a rover) and screwed a screw through it. No risk of sparks....

Unfortunately the hole was so f*cking small we would have been there all day waiting for it to drain so we ended up hammering a screwdriver through the hole... hmm, sparks...

lol at this whole thread.

the washer pump sounds like an awesome McGuyver fix - I'm almost looking forward to when my fuel pump breaks.

cars stops. girlfriend: what's wrong?

me: <fiddles> .. seems like the fuel pump
cath: on no
me: don't worry. tape, screwdriver, spanners. Right, Cath. hold that there and make sure it doesn't piss fuel out in the car..
me: drive.

lol

I thought about sparks.. it was angle grinder, drill or screwdriver... hence my choice lol

Please dont class me in the same league as jonb or andyboy lol!

well. we spent about half an hour trying to decide if there would be sparks and if it would be safe...

But I think of it this way. You are hammering the screwdriver through the bottom of the tank. As long as there is a decent amount of fuel in there, it wont ignite. Liquid petrol wont be ignited by a spark, only the fumes ignite, so if the spark is at the bottom of the tank, it wont ignite the liquid fuel.

This theory falls on its arse when you think that its unlikely you will get it all the way through on the first strike, so some will be coming out, making fumes, and you will still be hammering away... but that didnt occur to me until afterwards.

My 318s fuel pump stuffed its self in Thurso( top of Scotland ) and I had to get to Brummieland the next day, no scrappys could help so I hictchd 100miles to where my old 316 tourer lay half dead, took the fuel pump out and got it back to the 318...the f*#kin thing diddnt fit!! solition: cut the pos and neg wires and repalce the pump its self from the 316 into the bracket of the 318, twist the wires back together and prayed all the way during my 500mile trip that the two naked wires wouldnt cause a spark, Im pleased to say I made it and it wasnt intill I got a lovely sidewind comming off a island that the wires came apart...Danger :pff: what danger lol winkeye

ideal for soldering wires inside the fuel tank!!!! 8O :D

if anyone is worries about sparks, think about what happens when you run out of fuel... the bosch fuel pumps work like this: the 'pump' section is at one end of the can. it sucks fuel up out of the tank, pumps it THROUGH the motor, past the brushes etc (cooling the motor) and out of the other end. now, when the fuel runs out, the pump screams a bit, yes? now, has anyone seen a 20 year old DC motor on full chat with worn brushed. arcing everywhere!!!

needless to say, after opening up a dead fuel pump to see how it works and then figuring this out, i've been extra careful not to run out since!!!!
