Some info on Touring and iX needed please...

Did BMW build an E30 325iX (4x4) Touring?

If so, did they build a version with a manual gearbox?

Anyone know the towing capacity (sad question I know) for a 325i and a 325iX?

Cheers,

Steve

Top stuff. I guess an auto wouldn't be the end of the world anyway.

It'd be to tow;

* Horse trailer with 1x Horse (possibly two)

* Car transporter with Mk1 Golf GTI (or occasionally Caterham CSR Se7en)

Obviously not both at the same time.

I'm guessing the iX Touring is quite a rare car? Is it permanent four wheel drive or is it switchable?

Doh! - Not that I mind LHD but I'm sure it wouldn't be fun reversing with a trailer on in a LHD car!

Might have to be a "normal" 325i Touring - do they have slippy diffs in them as standard? Wet fields aren't great to drive over with a trailer on the back!

I'm no expert on towing stuff, but defintely find out about those weight ratings. The E30 isn't a heavy car, so towing another car and a trailer or a horse and a trailer might be pushing it.

I know the Mk1's are light (I used to have one), but it soon adds up!

We used to have a Daihatsu 4x4 but sold it last year. You don't realise how much you miss having a tow car till you are without one!

The other option is to buy a Merc/VW Horse Box Lorry (we recently sold our old MAN horse box) but that doesn't let me pull my car trailer - plus if I can find a good excuse to buy an E30 again I'll take it ;)

Just hope it's towing capacity is rated somewhere half decent.

Was considering one.

My unckle runs a new shape 530i Touring as a tow car and that's excellent.

Guess part of the decision will be what's available when I come to buy something.

I do have a rather large soft spot for the E30 though...

I'm old so I've got a licence with "proper" entitlements on it. (Plus have Fire Bridgade driver training at my disposal - which helps).

iX touring comes in manual and automatic flavours.
Towing limit is officially 1200Kg, the same as any other E30.
I regularly tow with a 325 touring, up to, and probably slightly over, the cars weight (1350Kg on a weighbridge).
Get the nose weight right, and it's perfectly happy and stable at any sane speed.
The heaviest I have towed is an E34 on a trailer, and it definitely wasn't happy with that! 50MPH absolute maximum, and it was "interesting", even at that speed.
