out of interest, where/whatbrand are the cheapest coilovers.

has anyone tried them coil spring kits like ground control or anything??

i looked at them for a while before buying bilsteins,but at the time the fk coilovers where the cheapest at around £599.i was put of though by other peoples comments on the harshness of the ride

meh harshness is the price i pay for saving a good whack of money then fine,,,

but realistically this is not saving me a whack of money. hmm

any other kits??

I can get hold of H&R coil over kits with springs specific for the Nurburgring for 1000 euros which is around £675 including tax. Slip me a few quid and I will bring you back a set when I collect mine at the end of the year

I found that FK did the cheapest coilover kits. The shocks weren't adjustable though... only ride height.

My research into a kit for the M3...

FK's are the cheapest - although I've heard rumours about rusting (which is true, they need to be constantly greased), plus they aren't rebound adjustable (don't matter though if you not bothered about ride quality). I've heard one story about the springs snapping if too low. But one bad comment wouldn't change my opinion, and at £600 you can't really complain...

H&R - Expensive, but bloody good. Although the drop is pathetic. 55mm max is quite frankly shocking (this is for the m3 though)

Personally I wouldn't bother the conversion kits from Taiwain, they'll do more harm then good. Suspension is quite a fundamental component of a car, I wouldn't go cobbling together some half baked blue peter jobby, just to get it sitting right, only to find out it don't turn corners...

Try Leda, you can get them to build to your spec and there not that pricey. Plus side is there is not alot they don't know about suspension. And you can upgrade them as time goes on or you have more cash.

aint it 40-70 on the front and 30-50 on the back?

From my experience as a passanger the H&R coilover is great. But it is stiff and does crack the chasis or crack the welds (so i've heard)

The H&R Coilovers are not overly stiff.

FK are meant to be ok but very very hard.

KW's are £909 for V2 (ride height and rebound) and £760 for V1 (ride height only). These are very very good. For the extra money over the FK's they are serioulsy worth it.

Decent set of coilovers is going to cost over £700

FK coilovers aren't hard at all. I found that I didn't think they were hard enough for track work... but were perfectly setup for fast road use.

I found that the front set-up was very adjustable for height... where as the rears were rubbish for height adjustment and I ended up replacing the rear springs for a pair of 60mm Spax springs as I couldn't get the back-end down low enough to match the fronts...

£550 for mine, IIRC. - buy cheap buy twice... never a truer word spoken.

Would definitely think about researching into other set-ups if you're using it for the track. Shock adjustment is a must.

u should try GAZ, very competitive and excellent quality.

ive used em for custom stuff on couple of our cars and they are top notch!!

also have made our own coilys using kits from rallydesign etc... but u do need to work with them a lot to get the right spring rate, and without rate adjustment theres a bit too much bounce no matter what u do with the spring rate!!!

ideally adjustable inserts into ur own coilys, but when u add the price of all that up the GAZ units for example arent much more, and theyre dynod and garunteed!!

I had a set of AVO coilovers on one of my Golfs, seals went on all 4 shocks and the bodies were rusted to fook, sent them back under warranty to be rebuilt, waited 6 weeks for them, all 4 were FUBAR again within a week of being back on the car. Demanded a refund and paid the extra to get Koni coilovers and never looked back. Like was said above, "buy cheap, buy twice". True 'dat.
