Are halfords own batteries any good or best avoided? Can someone recommend a good battery that won't cost a fortune. Cheers

i had to get a halfrauds battery the other day... heavy duty 60 quid!!! :'(


seem alight at the mo... but obviously hasnt lasted the test of time

Try BMW!! You'll find they are pretty reasonable and nothing looks better under the bonnet of a BMW than a proper white BMW battery. Halfords ones are very good, never had a problem with one. Bosch I'm not too keen on as everything Bosch seems to have gone down the toilet on quality but Varta are about the best.

A great Varta story; in 1945 a German U Boat was sunk off the Atlantic coast. It remained there until 1994 when it was raised by a Danish publishing mogul who believed it stored all kinds of treasure (it didn't). The Varta batteries were removed and set back to Varta who discovered that after almost 50 years in Salt water, 60% of the batteries would still hold a charge.

You don't get that with Halfords!

How many amps should I go for? It seems to range from 35 to 80.

You mean from the dealers? I'm on a bit of a budget but i guess it's worth a call.

ive got a 55 AH battery ony my iS. if you fit a too large aH rating, the alternator wont be able to charge it poroperly

So is 66 ah the correct rating?

I agree with Mr Everett on this one, I went to halfrauds for a battery for the wife's E36 318is and was quoted £70.

I then went to the main dealers and got a genuine BMW battery for £46, fantastic deal.

Unfortunately I have to get a battery today and the only way to get to the dealers is a long-ish bike ride. So halfords it is.

ECP is not bad for batteries.i got a new 85 a/h a couple of weeks ago for under £60.

I don't suppose that Halfords go to that length to test their batteries though

I've got a halfords heavy duty one on my 325i touring and its been there over 2 years now without any trouble. Its still going strong too....

If your halfrauds battery goes to shit just take it back the moron working there for £1.50 an hour won't care about giving you a refund.

Ive got a 75Ah on my M50, cost me £40 from my mate that works at a motorparts store

Dont know what make it is and im not bothered as its in the boot behind all the trim and came with a 4 year guarantee
