What colour?

I'm currently rebuilding a Diamond Schwartz 318is, every panel has been either scratched, scraped or fallen foul of the tin worm. Once I've repaired and prepped the bodywork it'll have a full respray. The problem I have is, do I keep the original colour? Or, change the colour completely and do something different? I'm hoping to be ready for paint later on next month. The mechanical side will be finished as soon as the replacement engine arrives (thanks to EKO).

Any opinions and suggestions for colours guys?

Bob

i was gonna ditto pal's response with brilliant red but now i dunno. dolphin grey would be pretty cool since i've not yet seen a dolphin grey 'is'! dunno wot anyone else thinks but IMO i think u should keep the colour as an original, dont go too funky, keep it simple and it should look sweet. all the best with it, hope to see some pics when its done

Dolphin Grey would be unusual, but, I have an E30 325iSE in that colour.
I do have 5 litres of Lachs Silber which I bought for a previous project and decided not to use. Did BMW ever produce the 318is in Lachs Silber?

Pretty sure that no iS's where made in Lachs Silver,

Lachs Silber would cetainly make it individual and retain a sense of originality. I've considered most of the BMW range of colours and still hanker over Dakar Yellow!! Not sure this would be a sensible colour or just make it look council.

I saw a yellow E30 once - had to take a pic! Now I guess you're not going for 5-spokes & a DTM 'zorst, but you get the idea...

flippin hell mate, ur driveway must look like a rainbow. out of the colours we have then i would say lachs, it looks well sweet and if you got the se sideskirts fitted too droppin ur rear bumper paint all the way to the bottom, sprayin over the normal black section i think it could look well sweet. that and a set of 16 hartges would set it off

I'm liking the yellow, looks a bit darker than the Dakar, but, then again, it's all down to the camera angle and lighting.

Once painted, the car will have the original BBS wheels refitted as I'd like to keep the spec as standard as possible.

im not sure on the yellow mate, bit too, tangy! not classic enough, dunno wot anyone else thinks but im squintin at the thought of a yellow e30. i'm gettin flashbacks of that horrid blue e30 that came on pimp my ride uk, young colour for an old car. its like a 70 year old wearin an adidas tracksuit and a medallion!!

Ah, the elusive 16" Hartge alloys. Anyone??

As for the rainbow driveway, I've got a Candy Violet (deep pink metallic) 4 door 325i South African import, as well as quite a few others.

stick with black I say, love it when its given a good scrub up - but a bit of a bugger for showing the dirt when not 100% clean
