Someone smashed up my Beemer =( Payout at last!

chugging along in my auto, waiting to turn right with indicator on! Wack, some chump in a Saab thought he would have a go! :(

My trusty steed is now a write off as thats a nasty repair on a car that cost Ԛ£300

Image

Image

the wheel now rubs where it's all been pushed forward below the bumper. The shut lines have close up by the rear door too, so it's all moved a bit.

Image

I hope the petrol filler neck has not broken and my fuel tank is leaking as that could really f**k me up as the alpina is off the road so it's my only mode of transport! I can't really tell at the moment as it's pissing down with rain

What a bummer...even though it only cost Ԛ£300, it's the principle, fookin saab drivers..What you going to do with it then??
Frag it or sell it on? or do you have something else in mind...All the same, as long as you got out ok.

hey man, sorry to hear bout the crash... if your not too bothered bout the panel being straight, why dont you get someone to use a power pusher (every body shop should have one) to push the rear wing away from the wheel??? You can buy one yourself from machine mart for about 100 quid... Just a quick thought. Hope you get sorted soon, Cheers, Guy.

i'm ok might have a bit of a stiff neck, only me in the car. For me i was pretty calm. Gonna tuck the fcuker up for some pound notes to buy me a 325i touring, manual of course.

It's morsel loaded as some on here know!

I'll have to frag it when i've sorted out another chariot

I need to check underneath seems to drive fine still, but it's bloody pissing it down with rain :x

looking at the damage mate, there's a risk that could be cat b salvage (due to in the eyes of an insurance assessor shell damage on an old shitter), meaning you won't be able to keep the car if it goes through his insurers as they are legally obliged to make sure cat b salvage is disposed of through licensed salvage agents, not left to Joe public to repair, plus you can never insure cat b cars.

Couple of tips, if you are gonna spank him through his insurers. Do not let the car be taken to one of their approved repairers and left there for assessment and the engineer to come along as they will then end up getting rid of the car and the morsels to avoid ongoing storage charges. Just tell them it can be inspected at your place of work or at home, that way the car stays with you. You have a possible argument the car can't be driven due ot rubbing wheel and defective rear light and risk of exhaust fumes getting in through boot where it don't seal, so would be entitled to a like for like replacement hire car at their cost too. If you wake with a stiff neck in the morning then there's possibly a claim there too. Car would get sorted quickly assuming this guy actually has insurance and the injury claim would prob take about 6 months assuming they just admit liability straight away and deal with the car claim.

However, depending on how you want to approach it, if you deal direct with the other bloke then possibly you've got an Ԛ£800 or so settlement or so there for the car and you get to keep it as it is and do as you please in your own time with the morsels.

Thanks Lee, do u think i could get Ԛ£800 off him? i mean it would cost more than that to do a proper job.

But a loss of no claims and whip lash might persuade him?! He's picking up a brand new van 2moro!

I best get stripping just incase then

depends on how much of a state his car is in, it it's got a decent bit of damage, then he may not have the folding to sort his own chariot and pay off an enterprising young man like yourself, then he may have already belled his insurers, which if they have any sense, they will be on the blower sharpish otherwise you could be getting tapped up for an injury claim and being provided with credit hire by enterprising firms like www.minsterlaw.co.uk

Be careful about gutting the car too soon as the engineer may be suspicious that you are covering for something or that you have maybe made the damage worse deliberately to exaggerate the injury claim. If he started making noises like that to the insurers then they'll stall on the claim for ages whilst they wank about with an alleged fraud claim.

As to the Ԛ£800 figure I posted, it was a bit of a figure from the air, but not unreasonable IMO for the car, which don't look too bad in the pics. Have a look on autotrader and in Parkers for the values these things are going for as that's where any engineer will roughly be coming from.

Sorry to see a fun chariot going like this (which I think it will be).

Start taking off all the goodies.

If you want to put on a shit set of wheels, I have a set of steelies here mate (happily swap for the Alpinas winkeye ) Only kidding.

Let us know if you need a hand and ButtPlug ain't playing ball....

Sorry to hear about your crash, its good that you are OK! As others have mentioned, take off some of the goodies, especially those that you may not have made the insurance company aware of, the claim may be refused at worst, or at best reduced to standard manufacture items....
....the insurance companies will stop at nothing to get out of paying.

There is no harm in dealing with the guy direct, as long as he doesnt tell his insurance company as well because there could be a record of the incident in your name too and you may be stung further down the line with the info being stored on a central database! I say this because a woman at work had a guy reverse into her at some local shops, they exchanged details, but she decided that she had not real damage other than a few scuff and didnt inform the insurers, on renewal she was told that a claim had been made AGAINST her and he insurance was a whacking Ԛ£600 more than is should be.....thankfully she got her solicitor onto the case quickly and Direct Line soon came to their senses when they realised that they had broken the law - The woman at work didnt want to take it further as she could have done, just happy that her insurance was reduced by Ԛ£800 as a gesture of goodwill!

Good Luck!

Be careful out there folks, many dont have insurance and some will cause an accident just to get the monies, even they hit you!!!!

Real sorry to see that, why cant people just look where they are going :x
If you do need to change the wheels, I have a set of 14" jobboes with legal tyres you can have and sort me out when the claim goes through.

I'll be on the phone first thing 2moro i think. My neck is sore now so i expect it will be stiff in the morning!

I've fixed the lights so she is ready for work again.

Everything is legit on it but like u say saturday shall be a bit of a stripping day. I mean where do i find another car like this one?

factory options from what i can remember are

SE base spec car, so all electrics, 13 OBC, rear blind, 15bbs fogs etc

then on top

LSD 3.64
M-tech suspension
heated washer jets, door mirror, door lock
heated seats
air con
cruise control
cloth sports seats

plus my few bits, alpinas, RD manifold, scorpion exhaust, H&R springs and inverted billys on it and theres a bit of money. As it is it's worth over a Ԛ£1000 in bits easy

But i doubt u could replace it now as i've never seen another E30 with so many factory options fitted from new :?
Always comes at the wrong time doesn't it!

i really feel for you simon, i had an e36 318ti with 12k( yes 12k) on the clock and i was stationary behind woman turning right. my brakelight were clearly visible as it was a straight road ( and about 5pm in the summer) when some middle aged tit in an astra hit me and sent me into the womans e class merc, which ended up a fair few feet down the road. i had only owned the car for 3 months and had big plans for it. i suspected he was on the phone. the police just sent him on a driver training course. i wish i had the blokes address as i want to beat out him the money i lost as his insurance fucked me over Ԛ£2500 on the finance. i know what u must be feeling mate so good luck with hopefully turning the situation to your advantage.

Deepest commiserations. Makes you wonder whether it's worth having a nice car doesn't it? At least he wasn't another of those bloody illegal immigrants driving round with no licence, insurance or even ability to speak English. All the best for getting it sorted. If unrepairable, may be worth getting a cash settlement from the tosser and selling the bits. Looking at your spec, there's a damned sight more than Ԛ£300 there mate... Not the ideal solution, but an idea.
