Found out today off my m8 that you can get a car valuation from parkers on your mobile so i gave it a go (Ԛ£1.50 a go though 8O) you gotta send
key word : VALUE followed by u reg number and u mileage to 80806
Fcukin hell said my car was Ԛ£18060 new was surprised by that not worth so much now though    LOL

Parkers are crap for anything over 10 years old, they are wildly out in their valuations of anything over 10 years and as a lot of Ebay and private sellers are finding the value is determined by the market not a little book or a text message.

I'm sorry I don't rate parkers at all, especially for Ԛ£1.50 a pop!

yup though it only gives trade + retail price you can usually gauge the private sale value.

its funny seeing w@nk*rs with their nose in their 2.99 parkers guide in the auctions!

you should try being a vectra gsi owner 23k new, 2 yrs later worth about 8k!

or a 7 series owner, think they HALVE in value in 1 year!

i would have thought the best way of valuing a car is o look in the Autotrader and see what sort of price people are selling there's. Least gives u a better view of what their likely to sell for.

Glass do a modern classics version, 1991 H - 1998 S but at an extra £35 a month I dont think its worth it as condition varies so much at over 10 years old, may buy an old copy off ebay if i spot a cheap "buy it now" the last one i saw went for daft money!

id say ebay is a good price guide as we all know a cars only worth what someone will pay for it. dealers hate ebay its ruining the trade but as long as people are preparred to take the amounts ebay offer and people keep buying up cheap motors then the second hand car market will continue to be a non profitable trade. must say it makes me laugh to see some people offering "a cheap touring" for 600 on this website when i paid Ԛ£206 for mine and its in better condition and with lower miles...

600 aint a lot to pay for a touring, thats what mine was up for here (and reached it on ebay) though the guy never showed!!

i see plenty of cheap cars, i wanted a silver 320i SE that was up there for 800 and i would happily buy it but its 4 hours from me! hence i have to price my cars cheap to persuade people to collect. (have delivered 3 or 4 cars to get my price)

i think 600 is a lot for a touring when there were two during one week that made 200 quid. the other one only made 195 but had 2 bald tyres... again it goes to show people will pay what they want to pay. i always tell people the diffrence between a good write-up on a car for sale compared to a bad one is as much as 50% easily.. i have even made profit buying 3 badly advertised cars on ebay and spending 20 mins doing a better write up and add more pics...

I have just sold a 'J' reg 325 auto touring for Ԛ£2300, BUT it was diamond black with ZERO rust, ice cold air con, undamaged black leather , mint 15" BBS with new pirelli P6000s, a cat one alarm, a mint headlining, new subframe mounts, new cambelt and water pump, new engine mounts ,WORKING headlamp w/ wipe, new prop doughnut and gearbox mounts, all oils and filters changed, all working central locking including the dead lock and lots more. Proper people will pay proper money for proper cars, some people are content to drive around in leaky, wheezy ,rusty odd tired landfill , others are of the opinion that just because it is old why shouldn't it work ? and will spend the time and money to keep their cars properly, these cars do not sell for Ԛ£200 on ebay .
Now FBF tell me about your touring ? :)

man i have to hold back here. but as a starting note there is to much councilness on this thread.

a good good touring with no issues(ie drives very well), and a lovely spec(read petes car above) is worth 2k plus. a Ԛ£200 ebay turd is about......well how much is scrap per ton nowadays? i have a feeling its far less than Ԛ£200

a nice touring is a fantastic car. but it takes alot of effort or alot of dollars to get it to that level. i sold a touring for Ԛ£1500 last year, it had a lovely spec (leather, bbs 15"s etc) but still had issues.

a really nice touring(ref to petes chariot) still has kudos. but a doggy ebay turd with rust/dents/bad paint/shagged interior/ etc etc etc is just an old shitter, one small league above a same age volvo/carlton estate

Well put jonb,i totally agree and think it's much the same for most older cars, generally you get what you pay for and for me quality counts and i would always buy the best i could afford (believe me it's less hassle in the future) :D

my car was totally original.. OG alloys the only faults were the seat mech drivers side and the brake lights were stuck on. it dont have any leather but any one of you would be suprised and impressed at the condition of the car. its rust free and has a full bmw service history. new exhaust, rad and a few other recent parts all in the history.. Ԛ£206... it drives tight, and stops well. you'd be hard done to find any faults except a spoppy manual box. but to be fair im in the trade so know a bargain and how to get them.

i was about to say till jon beat me to it you can not compare a ebay piece of shite that the owner could not sell anywhere else in the country to a nice clean example car with history, this applies to most cars not just old E30s

Send that one into eBay marketing - they could use it next time they have an eBay Motors cheap listing day.

yeah thats true there is an element of that. its 'car club values' that do my head in. go on any forum and there will be a bunch of guys valueing the car at over the odds. everytime. i joined a golf forum cos i was getting GTi's at 300 quid on ebay and selling them to the forum guys at more than double.. without doing a thing.. bad place to buy a car, good place to sell one. incedentally anyone see that red touring on pistonheads? bwah ha ha ha haaa

You mean the one that belongs to Kedge on here...? Used to be DaveTouring's 320i then it became a 325i. Good spec, just needs paint here and there.

No not at all as i have never paid over the odds for a car, [well i did once years ago only because i had to own it ] :D but just that there are cars and there are cars,

And yes there is also the chav that sticks loads of plastic and a set of neons underneath and thinks his car is the best thing since sliced bread and worth Ԛ£Ã”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£ more i agreee the lights are worth more than the car :D

Exactly Giles - can't be worth more than Ԛ£200. Unless it has any tax on it / tapes in it?

Is it a general feeling that Tourings are worth more than their saloon counterparts?

If so, 'normal' E30's can only be worth what a packet of crisps cost then...

the general feeling here seems to be that these cars are worth a mint. im fighting my own corner here and im alone.

come on now, that red touring is clean but its not worth over 4k. even if the wheels are 300 quid a corner. it'd have to have 20,000 or less miles on the clock to be worth that price. these aint classics yet fellas.

I have just bought a 89 320 (cough!) touring off drowningman, i paid Ԛ£200 for it, yes it was cheap and i got a good deal BUT it will never be a nice / valuable car. Like most bargain e30s, it has a snapped manifold stud, shagged drivers door lock, collapsed rear subframe mounts, f*cked front shocks, a droopy headliner etc etc. I bought it as i need a dump car/ lone car / turd and as long as i don't get carried away fixing things it will stay a cheap car.
The main reason i have 'stooped' to a 320 is the morsels it has, 4 x15"BBS with caps !, a westfalia towbar, working headlamp wash wipe!,dog guard rear blind, an obc and best of all a very nice black leather trim oh and by the way it is taxed and mot'd till christmas !. So the moral of the story is yes there are lots of cheap e30s about but if you are intent on making them into NICE cars most of them aren't worth having, luckily mine was ! :D

P.s as per usual being the slag that i am all the morsels are for sale !
