To remove an uncracked cylinder head from a M20B25 engine, do to it what should be done, and refit it, I reckon on spending about Ԛ£300, not including labour for removal and refitting.

All the BMW engines I've opened up (even 200,000 mile + ones) have still had the cross hatching on the bores visible, and not the slightest trace of a lip anywhere. Aftermarket air filter?

I meant that there was no lip there that i could "feel". you could see where the rings came too, but no lip that could be felt, even with fingernail....

There is some hatching visable on the bores on mine...

hmmm, Ԛ£500 for a recon head?
I need to get my head off for new valve stem seals and the exhaust manifold studs are buggered :(
I was thinking a recon head and new Stainless Steel studs would have been a better option than buggering around with the existing head. Mebbe not.
What could I get for a non-recon head with dodgy studs but uncracked and otherwise good?
