so come on guys which on would win? my mate has a slightly moddifed 900turbo and i have a bog standerd sport...whioch one wud win in a race? his a vid of the saab!

well i nealy top out at 140-145mph and so does the saab and we have raced down the motorway and sat nxt to each other practly but never done a standing stat race!

Depends if either of you can actually drive, and if we're talking aboout a proper race around twisty bits, or a boring drag race.

I would bag the Saab,to much mid range punch, but looks like a dog!, i bet it handles like one two

i used to have a 900 series 1 turbo, i recon it was quicker off the mark than 325i

If its a 16v Turbo then you'll get done but if its only a 8v there 150 bhp standard and a very heavy car, I think you've got a fair chance, but wouldnt really advice racing to find out

Depends wether its low pressure or high. A sport would eat a low pressure for brekky as its only 150bhp and extremey heavy! Id have a go at a low pressure in my IS!lol. High pressure would probably be a fair match or better as carlsons are extremely fast i know! Mon the sport though!

plus u already win by having a rwd car that looks nice. that backwards engined peice of shit saab is one of the ugliest things i have ever seen. he obviously wishes it was rwd too by the poor attempt at some sort of power slide u should show him where the the hand brake is...

handbrake is on the front wheels on the saab, so that wouldn't induce any rear end shenanigans, but my money is on the saab winning hands down, even an 8V would give a sport a good run for it's money all day long, they handle quite well also, despite the weight.

Hand brake is on the rear wheels on the later 900's.
16v T is 185bhp @ 5700 or somthing iirc.
They are a hell of a lot heavier tho, but they do have the advantage of having the weight of the engine over the driven wheels. So if you can make a good start you should win in a drag race as the BM has much better torque than the old blown motor. However he will roar off the line because of the weight over the wheels. If it is a twisty circuit race the Saabs handle like comlete pigs, that's not to say they don't go around the corners, they just aren't as refined and composed when they do. So the BM sould win on that front, also you can out brake him easily as the BM has much more engine braking and much better brakes.
Essentially two well matched cars and it will basically depend on the driver.

It's interesting cos they are basically two completely different ways of doing eactly the same thing.

I currently own both models! Well a 325i cab (171 bhp 170 lb ft torque) not a sport which Widge is borrowing and a Saab 900 16 valve turbo 175 bhp but well over 200 lb ft of torque)

In a straight line the Saab wins hands down especially if it has a red box apc fitted as was fitted to the Carlsson. At 130 mph the Saab feels like it is running on rails whereas the beemer goes a little light and starts to run out of puff.

The 8 valve turbo (I had one before) is equally as quick although not as powerful it basically had a bigger turbo therefore greater turbo lag but when it kicked in it did with a thump. All that torque comes in at low revs too.

Over the twisty stuff the BMW is instantly at an advantage being reardrive with a tendancy to oversteer whereas the Saab will understeer although some careful left foot braking and throttle control keeps this in check.

They are basically two different driving experiences and both equally as fun to drive.

The brakes on the Saab in my opinion are as good as any it might be that when Widge borrowed mine the ABS was not working properly and the braking wasn't what it should be.

The are both classics of the future and I think a good 900 is equal to a good E30.

Although the Carlsson had the red box APC controller the old Saab 900 's were always going to be let down by the fact they were using Bosch L Jetronic right up to the end of production. And the fact the snail is tiny

apoligies on my behalf as i wrote without thinking realy!
some details of the saab...its a 16v carlson turbo with this red box thing larger turbo than normal, trick injectors dont no to what tho, it has been ported and gas flowed, bored out(by what we dont no) massive front mounted intercooler.
on the brakes we have a larger bore marster cylinder, braided flexies green stuff pads and discs all round with 4 pots on the front!
the car has been poly bushed all round droped 80mm we think on the back and about 100mm i guess on the front!( it realy realy does sit low a bit impractal)
and the list is bigger but i cant rember lol!
and this would be racing a 171bhp standerd bmw on alpinas which are ment to make them handel like shit!

but never the less his driving abilates may be worse than myself so ill give it ago at santa pod on sunday!!

i do have a feeling who is going to win as the vid shows how much power this car has in 2nd gear by the smoke! but can he get the power to the floor without spining the wheels???

He will waste you if if doesn't drive how he did in that video
