hmm, i had the same problem. Water just wont do it!

I used general purpose metal cleaner/chrome polish. Its a bit grity in mixture, and takes all the dirt right off. 8O . Just general metal cleaner i suppose then. Or i have heard of 'wheel acid' but dont have any experience of this myself.

a couple of applications of "wonder wheels" from halfords is good enough for most wheels - read instructions but don't leave it on as long as they say!

Get yourself a wire-wheel cleaning brush.

Just to clarify, that is a brush made for cleaning wire wheels. Not a brush made out of wire... as i first read it!

The only problem with a wire-wheel brush is that you usually can't get passed the brake calipers with them. I use a 1" paint brush & my finger :D

watch out with the wonder wheels. if your wheels have been re-coated or if theres any scrapes etc where the top coat has been comprimised the stuff will ruin them.
My advice, plenty soap and water and get in to those nightmare little crevvises with a stiff wheel cleaning brush (auto glym one good). Then polish with something gritty like metal polish/autosol/duraglit followed by a coat of normal polish to seal
Then just wash them twice a week and they'll always look the bomb

I use BMW wheel cleaner and a paintbrush
Going to try Meguiars Hot Rims when it runs out though as I've heard good things about it, supposed to clean well, and is acid free and kind to wheels

Pleased it worked :D , did it get brake dust off aswell?

cokes pritty nasty stuff my dads used to clean some old brass door handles up that were all corroded and gone greeny

Apparently real cokes the best compared to something like Morrisons own! :D
