Hiya. I went to see a e30 the other day, This guy had built a bit of a custom engine from a 325i. He said he had put a 2.7 crank in from a rare model. Could anyone shed any light please?

He'd used the crank & rods from a 525e which was actually 2.7 litres. It's a common upgrade when rebuilding the M20 six cylinder engine.
525e's aren't that rare though they are getting rarer!

Does doing this upgrade yield much extra power then?

if done properly then yes an extra 30-40bhp and lbs over a standard 2.5 lump.
most don't make 200bhp tbh but they are alot more get up and go compared to a 2.5 from low revs
