I know of a few around my side mate. Cheap too. Just stick a BMW badge and hey presto
Saying that i think they'll soon take it off and stick the Ford badge back on

Sorry, they didn't really make any sports bikes that were worth a toss. The Funduro can be a good laugh, semi off road super motard stylee, but still fairly fresh so not something to buy just to pull to bits. If you want something to go quick and cheap look to the East . Just my opinion obviously

get yourself a nice K75 that's not too far gone and fettle it until it makes you happy.
Don't be afraid of high mileage on them either.

He's gonna make a trike!
BMW do make sports bikes - they just don't do road legal race bikes.
If you want a laugh just watch a guy on a BMW GS out-corner some psuedo racetrack organ-donor on their GSXRRRXRKK on a roundabout. They go mental pulling wheelies & what have you as the pass the GS again. Meantime, the GS guy is laughing so hard he nearly falls off.

bmw do make sports bikes worth a toss in fact. what a rider has to do is overcome the japanese high revs/brake horsepower figure is all mentality to see it. there's more than one way to skin a cat...
k1200s

a mentalist machine that will devour huge distances in relative comfort and then eat many jap bikes for breakfast round a track.
k1200r

as above without the plastic buttoned to it. both bikes have a reputation for agricultural gearboxes but you name a bike that doesn't have something dodgy about it...
r1150r

a flat barred naked bike with the same amount of grunt as the yamaha r1 - just delivered earlier in the rev range and for longer. sports geometry and suspension with bmw all day comfort.
i've ridden japanese sports bikes and beemers and made my choice. if you want to ride around with your bodyweight through your wrists, arse in the air, legs tucked up underneath you and neck straining to keep your eyes looking forward then that's your choice. not for me.

i'm afraid the words 'nice' 'sporty' and 'cheap' dont really sit well together dips you might try and go for an insurance right off that has only cosmetic damage as i presume you are going to rebuild it anyway
(no you wont get a V12 into one)

i don't really know much about bikes yet i'm afraid
but i do know that bmw's are generally more expensive, however i see your reasons for needing one (if it's becoming a bmw trike!)
p.s. i have a jap bike so i can't talk about the comfort argument

I thought the R1100S was the 'sportiest' bike BMW make - didn't it have its own race series for a while? Not exacetly cheap though - none for less than £2.5k I wouldn't have thought.
I used to have an R1150GS and it was ok and handled well, but it corroded badly (yes I did wash it occasionally) Since then I've had jap bikes but currently have a triumph.
Good luck in your search!
