My 325i Sport

Hi, new to the forum and E30s! Just bought / swapped my Pug 106 GTi for a 1987 325i Sport with 79K miles (genuine I think). Two questions:

What was the original 0-60 time of this car?

Secondly, is there any functional difference between this prefacelift sport and the later MTech 2 cars? Someone said something about later cars had different mount for brake bar thingy that transmits pedal pressure from drivers side pedal to passenger side brake servo, improves pedal feel? Anyone fitted braided hoses to this car, with what results?

Cheers
Doug

can tell you the 0-60, officially according to my handbook its 8.3. Although i think BMW were a bit conservatice with their figures and it maybe a bit quicker than that.

Out of interest, what feels faster, your old gti or the beemer?

Your pre-facelift sport is quicker than a later model because the Mk2 Sport had emission restrictions.

look a bit cooler to!

Not a massive difference - jus feel more urgent

Tech2

There is a few differences between the two, like the tec1 has a lower compression and are more retro now!
Im sure more people will fill you in on all the differences.
Happy BMW ownership mate!

close, but no prize.

tech 1 sport is quicker as it has a higher compression engine than the later tech 2 cars

tech 2 had a lower compression fitted worldwide in preperation for emissions gear, but it wasnt fitted here in the uk. they lowered the diff ratio to compensate, but tech 1 is still slightly quicker.

The 0-60 is well under 8 seconds as well. With a GTech timer I did a 7.5 in mine WITHOUT revving over 5k shortly after the last head went one. I'd say with a proper launch and revving it right out it would hit just under 7.

Pug vs 325i

Sorry for delay, I have been away. The BMW feels faster than the pug 106 gti in 'real world' driving but the pug did fly for that 5500-6500 range. There is no comparison in the overall drive, the BM just feels more solid, quality, like it will go forever, the opposite to the pug, which felt like bits were going to fall off at anytime. I am surprised at the slowness of the rack and therfore the slightly slow turn in. Having said that I haven't got my scandinavian flick going on yet! Someone said swapping to a 318 rack is an improvement, might even make the steering so heavy my wife won't drive it - result!
