What insurer will 'touch' my 3.2 engined E30 M3?

Yes,

After nearly 5 years of what is now toe-raggery and round-the-houses-ness of near-legend surrounding my 3.2 S50 converted E30 M3 project, as it nears completion up at Zoom, here's me trying to find an insurer to insure the beast and (so don't suggest i use them please) Carole Nash for example won't 'touch it' becuase its 'Too Modified' - the conversation went something like this (I suggest you all push your tounges firmly into your bottom lips everyone in readiness for this one!):

ME; "So its an E30 M3 with the 3.2/6-speed drivetrain from a '97 M3 in it - innit! (I added the extra 'innit' here purely for editorial nuance)"

THEM: "You didnt just transplant the engine into it and that's all did you?'

ME: "No of course not, we've sensibly upgraded the brakes and suspension, wheels and tyres etc to match the drivetrain"

THEM: "Of Course, that's very sensible, it wouldn't really be safe with just the drivetrain changed"

[move on 4 hours later]

ME: "So what's the story morning glory?"

THEM: "The underwriters won't touch it because it's too modified - but if you'd just changed the engine and gearbox they would have insured it"

...is it me or is that just nuts?

So - can anyone like Ian (with the 3.2 engined E30) or anyone else with a seriously modded car recommend anyone and tell me who THEY use please? (other than Adrian Flux as they are the only firm I currently have on my list to try tomorrow)

Cheers all

Jhonno - great, thanks, but can I have a telephone number please? And what car do you insure with them so I know what to say when they say 'why did you come to us?'

Also please don't say AON to me anyone as they too say they do not insure 3 or 5 series BMW's under their classic or modified car policy's, only in their normal everyday policy department which is just like going to anyone else like Tesco apparantly...

my last highly modified car was an escort mk4.
i converted it to rear wheel drive using all sierra cosworth running gear.
changed inner bay's, engine, box, front and rear suspension, put a rs turbo body kit on it, i told adrian flux(08700 714714) of all the changes,
my quote worked out the same as the sierra cosworth before i cut it up.
have already had a quote of them for my e39 m5 powered e30

You said "Adrian Flux"

I said in my initial post
can anyone like Ian (with the 3.2 engined E30) or anyone else with a seriously modded car recommend anyone and tell me who THEY use please? (other than Adrian Flux as they are the only firm I currently have on my list to try tomorrow)
I know i wrote ÃÂaan Flux not Adrian, Ian Flux being a pretty average racing driver of his time, not an insurer, but still I would have thought youԚ´d have known who i meant!!!

So other than the two FluxԚ´s any OTHER suggestions?

Green light insurance (search google) insure modded cars :)

I asked Adrian flux about the insurance for my modded car in the making (a 1972 GT6 with '98 M3 Evo engine, box, programmable ECU, bespoke chassis, widened bodywork etc. etc.) and they came up with about Ԛ£900 on limited mileage. Not bad I thought considering I'm less than 25 years old :)

I know you are looking for others, but I'm with Adrian Flux. I think HIC (details above) are the only other brokers who would quote, but they wanted more than Flux.

The only problem with Flux is their installment plan. It's blinking expensive. I just did my own installment plan on my Capitol One credit card. They only charge 6 or 7% interest, so I paid the full amount to Flux, and just setup a monthly standing order to the credit card. Cheap as chips :thumb:

From memory, I paid around Ԛ£700 full comp with protected (full) no claims. I was 36 at the time, and the car is garaged.

The policy is with NIG if that helps you track down a good quote.

Feel free :D

To be honest, they were really cool, and did not ask silly questions or anything. They just took the basic details and gave me a quote. I think Flux will insure just about anything.

Ian.

There is one insurer that you guys dont know about

Flux were actually cheaper for me to insure a 2 litre 16v fiesta than a standard 1.6Si, this confused me but it's the policy that you fit into, so you should do alright with the E30.

but dont tell adrian fluxx that you make your living through djing or they wont insure you, the only reason they would not insure me for my nitrous was because iam a dj,,,,,,,,,,, tossers

Flux wanted Ԛ£1900 for me to insure my 316i - 20yrs old with 1yr NCB!!

Yet my mate (19) is insuring a 2.0 16v Corsa with them for under 1k

Me thinks they are much better with modded cars

Flux said to me that if I had done all the work myself, the premium would be lower. Guess they figure that if you've put body and soul into making a car you'll be a little bit careful with it........and how right they are!
