i missed 3rd gear this morning lazily changing up. such a silly mistake and you dont know what u could of done.
also i keep saying to myself gentle gentle, but the odd now and again i feel to hold it in 3rd to the redline and hear it scream. then afterwards think to myself, what a tool. there was no point in doing that.
anyone else do this?

Yes, you spend days after thinking you can hear funny noises that the car wouldnt be making if you had'nt ragged it. I also have the instances when I say something and as soon as the words leave my mouth I think "why the f*ck did I just say that ?". Shit happens I guess !

I never feel bad about driving my cars hard. Thats what I bought them for. I look after them and spend whatever it takes to keep them mint but I also drive them hard and think nothing of revving up to the red for each gear change.
I dont see the point in having a car just to cruise around like an 80 year old in.

Is this why your car keeps going wrong? (sort of a joke

)

Possibly but its only because its old and it cant take it any more. The last time it went bang it was due to a dodgy valve seat but maybe if I drove like a fanny all the time it would have never come loose.

You can't drive them like a granny all the time, doubting there durability, as those doubts will persist and nag at you.
I span out and cracked my sump a few months ago, my own fault as i was arsing about. After fixing it i promptly went out and thrashed the nuts out of it as a test to see if it was OK as i didn't want my doubts ruining my faith in the car and my driving.
If you fall off the horse then you had better get straight back on !

The only time recently was when i decided to have a go against my mates stripped out fiesta SI.... i was too agressive on the 1st - 2nd and lit up the rears in 2nd and the arse stepped out with the road going down to 1 lane i had to back off to get it back in
didnt think the 320 would do that but the clutch really didn't like it, its done 143K on the origional so no wonder its ready

I feel a bit bad sometimes, mainly if I've made a mistake or hit a pothole. It all comes back the other way at servicing time though! The car gets everything it needs.

i feel bad if i DONT thrash my car. these engine love to rev when in good condition so why not make use of it? keeps them powerful too if u drive sumthin thats only ever been short shifted its whole life its usually horrible at high rpm.
i feel bad sumtimes after laying a bit of rubber down ... but its worth it!!!

cant beat the feeling of WOT. expecially when there is a nice noise to go with it

the IS just loves to rev and doesnt really feel stressed at any point in the rev range

They both sound very familiar to me! Another reason why I kick myself is when Im skint and Im determined to make a tank of petrol last as long as possible... then minutes later I can't resist sticking the auto box in "2" and putting my foot down.
Oh well.

Had this yesterday as it happens.
Generally I drive like a very law abiding granny, but I'd picked an onl friend and his brother up from the station to go for a drink and was inevitably telling them about the mods to my car.
Anyway, got to a long straight bit of road and absolutely spanked it (well, 60 in a 40 anyway) which I never normally do!
Didn't really enjoy it at the time (although my passengers did) and felt like a bit of a nob afterwards too.
Still, live and learn eh?

I give mine a quick spank every now and then.
Dont think it does it any harm to use it as it was intented. Its Doing burnouts and doughnuts that I believe put undue stress on the drivetrain ehich is why I dont do them

TBH, Ive never actually considered the implications of caning my car.Sure I warm it up so the oil temp guage is reading something. AndIm not in the habit of bouncing it off the rev limiter. I also try to let it cool down after a run.
But driving it softly out of fear of breaking it, is just putting yourself throught twice the heartache. Worry about it being broken if/when it does break. Not before, or you'll find you won't enjoy the thing.
