Took the old 325i cabby out for it's first proper thrashing on manday night , all little back roads and lanes and had the BEST time of my life(except for the 2 hookers in Sofia) but used 40 litres in 1 hour is that a record or normal?

im driving my 525e doner car at the mo
just cleared out £20 in 60 odd miles
mind you i was abusing it and using "sport mode" makes it rev right up to 5k
mind you it has covered 214k and i have little patience when driving around town, reckon a 325 manual will beat it hands down

It was all twisty back lanes so I would say 2nd and 3rd gear 5-6k revs most of the time. The new chip does rev to 7k so we tried that a couple of times. Just glad to get her back with the engine in TBH.
Few handbrake turns, few doughnuts(nearly).
If I drive like my dad the meter usually shows 20-30 mpg.

Daz, i did a full tank in 180 miles, and that was driving quite hard so i guess its one of two things 1) your an animal 2) rusty fuel tank or filler pipe?

Fair play to that mate, I think the bottom line is if you dont want shit fuel consumtion dont buy a e30 six pot !

It does sound a bit excessive but if you consider the extra weight of the car plus the drag at speed it makes a little more sense.
If I want to do 80mph on the motorway like everyone else the car only manages 20mpg according to the guage and it's only a 1.8
Not worth bothering working out fuel consumption for a cab if you use it at speed/on the motorway I think - far too scary

Have had up to 400 miles in a day out of a tank in my 325i cabriolet (roof up) on UK motorways at a steady 80mph (indicated) with the cruise control on, I reckon 30mpg.
On the continent I've had about 25 mpg and 370 miles out of a tank cruising all day on the autoroute at 95-100.
Put your foot down and I can do about 240 on a tank!
