Sounds like the owner could be a e30 lover might not be willing to part with his car. if a sale fails, you can always make him join the Zone

TBH mate, if the guy has that car and sends it to BMW for servicing then it must be one he wants/ spent some time looking for, and unless you just happen to get him on a day when he is thinking "I fancy a TVR" then he is unlikley to sell. Particularly when he has just spanked Ԛ£xxx on a BMW service.
Worth a try though
Good luck

Just read that post, bummer mate, didn't even get to hear what it sounded like

Ask him, ask him! u join the club!

by e30bemer
i have his details on the system!!
Could just call him!!
Would love to join the club Simon

im thinkin now!
Could this just be a 325 badged up as a alpina???
Didnt have a proper look at the interior, but i did see a alpina wheel and gear knob, but those you can get anywhere!
As it has a tech 2 front and rear valence??
What do ya rekon?

by Widge
If you have it on the system, can you pull up the details of the car? Like what spec alpina is it?
Posted: Fri Feb 24, 2006 11:45 am
by Simon13
thats the joy with alpina's they are all different no 2 are ever the same, especially on the older ones
Posted: Fri Feb 24, 2006 11:48 am
by Widge
Does mean if you are going to buy one you have to properly find out the spec.
Posted: Fri Feb 24, 2006 11:51 am
by Simon13
thats where the joy starts, u can't just phone sytners anymore and check the reg/chassis no. on the phone u have to write a letter
how tedious and means u could lose on the buying one if u go this route. Luckily Andy at WLN has already done all this for me on mine!
Posted: Fri Feb 24, 2006 11:54 am
by Widge
So presumibly e30bemer can't check on the bmw system what spec it is. Also if you are selling one (if you have nothing to hide) then it is a good idea to have that letter from Synters already with the car.

Alpina's engine numbers match the chassis no.
normal bm's have 2 different numbers for engine and chassis
at a guess if u put in an alpina chassis number it would just come up with the base car before it was converted? mind u it might come up as an alpina. You could probably find out the bmw options on it before it was converted too.
I don't know! just my logic kicking in there

well i checked our spec system!
It has no record of being a alpina!
Thats what the spec said

but like simon said, this is poss the spec of the car it was converted from!
But usaully when we put in alpina numbers it sometimes does flash up sayin its a alpina, but thats on the new models, maybe different for older models!
So could be legit!

I know if I put my chassis number into the ETK it comes out as a 323i.
The only way to get info is from Sytners, and I believe they only provide that info to owners now. Can't blame them really, they probably get some right Herberts phoning up.
Incidentally, I'd say that one's genuine - it's got an Alpina boot spoiler (wider than the M-Tech I), and not all Alpinas came with the front scoop anyway.

The dealers i work @ is Sytner!
Like you say, will be a pain in the rear end!!!
As they only supply details to owners only!

He he, go on do it! Find out what spec it is, is it on computer or a proper old file system?

i think all cars are on paper if they were built before 1994/5 or something?
it's what my main dealer told me about when everything went on to computers. logging even when the cars are serviced, pdi'ed etc
So a poor uber hemet probably has to go on a paper trail everytime someone asks!
it's only the nottingham sytners that are the offical uk alpina dealer in this country isn't it now?

My Alpina was built in Nottingham so on the BMW system it shows up as a 325 cab. This is also the case on Sytners computer. Lukily I have copies of the original invoices from 1990 which shows all the details of the conversion including fitment of a Tech 11 kit as opposed to the cow catcher.
I have a framed Alpina advert in my office which shows an Alpina E30 saloon, touring, cab, and a B6S all in Lachs Silver. The strap line is "to Alpina, Thy're all convertibles" The text says that the C2.7 saloon is based on the 325 sport and as such has the Tech 11 kit. Always a good info point as it includes a range of performance and power figures. So, as with most notes on Alpina, there don't appear to be any rules.
There is also a description of the Alpina 3 - this has Alpina wheels, spoilers, steering wheel, gear knob, badges...and key fob! How many people would call this an Alpina?

Alpina GB is based at Sytner Nottingham (Lenton Lane?) but the new cars can be purchased through 8 other Sytner sites.
I think the wheels etc may be available from any BMW dealer, not sure though.

having just insured my alpina today, the car comes up as a 325i on their system. Even though they know it was converted from new to Alpina 2.7 spec
So this must be the case with the dealers. Were these cars not registered new over here as Bmw Alpina C2 or whatever? strange if they were not. I thought by the early 80's they were regarded as a car manufacturer in their own right?

its odd it has m-tec 2 front and rear but then the proper alpina side skirts. looks real but u need the build sheet from sytners...leciester have all the old records.
simon...dont even think about sticking the valence on urs!!!
if you do a reg check all the e30 alpina`s will come up as the standard model, the build sheet will give u the engine number, what alpina bits were on the car from new, its only the newer alpina`s that are on computer records

I think that in the late 1980s & early 1990s L & C Auto were also authorised Alpina dealers/supplies.
As has already been mentioned in this thread - Alpinas from this period varied in spec quite a bit. Trying to find out details pre-computerised systems is a nightmare!

had a right result!
Just went to grab my car from the prep centre!
And she is back sitting in our car park!
had a closer look @ the interior and there is a plaque sitting on the centre console!
See if he will sell it??
never know!
And introduce him to the zone
