Can anyone please tell me where these were originally fitted in the engine bay of my 86 325i Cab
Cheers

These were only fitted by dealers when the car went for cam belt change onto any convienient spot. On my last E36 these were fixed on the radiator fan cowl. They stopped putting these on some 5 years ago but you could buy them for about £10 as an option.
I can’t tell you what they currently do as I no longer have the E36.

Washer bottle, top of the headlamp grill, strut tower, anywhere and everywhere really, there is no official location although personally top of the headlamp grill is the most sensible in my opinion

Also seen them in the hole in the bonnet insulation.

Thanks guys, didn’t even know these existed until I was looking on RealOEM for parts for timing belt change. There they are priced at $0.45, when I placed order for belt, tensioner, spring & pin at local dealers I asked for half-a-dozen labels. Sensibly the parts manager let me know he’d only ordered one after learning they are £9.50 each!
The worse job I think I’ve ever done on the car (stripping sound insulation)
Cheers

The label used to come as part of the timing belt kit but around 5 years ago these became extra. On my last belt change at the dealer it was not replaced. I complained to the dealer and the dealer supplied it free but said it was no longer supplied by BMW in Germany as part of the kit.

Good call Dan, plus it matches the dealer label on the other side.
