Seems like some sense has at last crept in, along with all the natural habitat - he's selling them all; there's a link in the original YT description.

I shed a tear too; for the story, the car and the owner, so I've bought it. Plan to swap the drivetrain into my 318i Touring.

These pages have been vital to my plan so far but I tried to donate and failed. Is there another way to support The Zone these days?

Reasonable/realistic price? Or did you find it a bit inflated due to promotions?
Great decision though, M42 touring is

I probably overpaid but not by much. I had a long call with Rein and he's a nice guy with great stories whom I felt empathy for. An extra few hundred quid seemed irrelevant in the grand scheme of life's challenges.

Hoping delivery will be late next week.

I know it seems like I am nagging you, but please please document ALL of this as it is a very rare opertunity to get in on the ground floor of such a story.
I saw the video and still think he has more money than sense but I did feel for they old lad ,we are all different in the end and this was his world, who am I to knock it?
A great chance here, please dont pass it by :D :D

Don't mind being nagged Mart, Its not an excitingly new build/swap story so I'm not sure about doing a dedicated thread.

Getting it collected and loaded up was a challenge and then getting it off the trailer was interesting. Here's a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAIotTSeds4 and a walkaround in daylight on YouTube.

Cheers.

Rear left quarter has a dent but, fire damage aside, its not a bad shell. Until the arson attack it was garaged. Front wings look as though they might go again, doors too look okay ish. Sunroof has surface rust but nothing deep, boot lid and rear panel are the worst bits, by far.

It would be nice if someone wanted a rolling shell for their project..

What are you planning on salvaging from this? It looks like land-fill to me!

Very profound. So what do you plan on salvaging?

Engine was main interest, I'd like to make my Lux, close to an 'is' spec Touring. Chassis and brakes look to be same from what I can see. Don't yet know if I'll bother changing gearbox and propshaft as the ratios are so close anyway and my current box is known to be good.
Sports seats would be nice if I can find some.. Front fogs I never use but maybe swap them as I have them anyway.

Black headlining is a stretch too far, at least at the moment. I prefer the standard 3 spoke steering wheel to the fussier M-tech 1 in the real is and I also prefer the standard depth Touring's lower spoiler lip. Rev counter's red line I can adjust for in my head and an 'is' boot badge if I'm feeling showy-offy.

What else am I missing..?

I love the look of the tech 1 wheel but find myself beeping at people randomly as i press the horn buttons accidentally!

318is with a 2 litre seventies Formula 1 racing engine - a homologation special.

Righto.

Pity about the Porsches. But a 1966 911S is a six figure car now - '66 is the first year of the S and all 911's were 2.0 until 1969, not 2.2.

Both cars are in the same country now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqh39pK5ZTU here's film from the Touring's return. I couldn't get the right clips for the missing wing trim but now I have a donor car, I can fix that.

The burnt out iS has donated screen washers for the MOT and Touring's fan fell off somewhere in France so I've almost recovered my 'investment' already..

Im quite suprised you were able to buy it. Normally these owners are mental and either want the earth or just simply won't sell.

Took a bit of doing, I was on the phone for 90 minutes. Harder was finding someone to recover and deliver it.

Most didn't want to know when they were told it didn't roll or have keys and was burnt out, up a back alley. I got lucky but I think the guy who took the job regretted it when it killed his winch.
