Buying Advice

Hi I’m looking to complete a purchase tomorrow. The seller is demanding a cash purchase. It’s quite a distance and ill have to travel 4 hours by train. It was originally scheduled for yesterday, but as he suddenly had to go to work, its now tomorrow.
Ive just had a text to say his Dad will pick me up at the station and take me to see the car. As ill be carrying cash, this sounds dodgy to me. The car seems sound, all checks have come up fine and consistent with the description the seller has given. The value is consistent with the market also.
May be genuine but thought I’d ask for advice first...
Cheers

It’s ringing alarm bells with me as well, if you do go please don’t go on your own make sure someone is with you and make sure lots of people know where you are !

All of my cars have been bought and sold for cash, personally wouldn't trust a bank transfer.
That being said, when I still lived in Northern Ireland, I had one bad experience about 3-4 years ago. Was selling a set of 351m wheels, chap from Southern Ireland arranged to meet up. Seemed like a nice enough guy but arranged to meet in a public car park as a precaution. Handed me cash, which was fresh from the printer. When I clocked this, he took a swing for me. Luckily he hadn't noticed that my mate was in the car. He fled leaving me with the wheels and the moody cash!
Much more to the story but all in all, very lucky.
If you're unsure, bring someone with you.

It sounds like he's desperate to sell it,I totally agree with Steve but if you really keen on buying it do as much research as possible ie HPI, DVLA mot history,DONOT tell him you've got the cash on you, leave it with your mate who goes for a walk round the corner while you look at the car and the get the keys in your hand and then hand the cash over.Make shore he is the real owner.

Thanks for all the advice. Turned out all very innocent and I’m now the proud owner of a very original and straight, clean example of a Manual 1991 318i Lux.
It was a joy to drive 220 miles home, didn’t miss a beat.
I’ll get some pics posted when this weather turns.
Thanks again!
