So, had a little side project on the go.
Made my own CNC bonnet badge, because the OEM ones are expensive and frankly because why not.
I've worked in the machine tool trade for just over 11 years now and work for one of the largest manufacturers of CNC machine in the world.
Designed and made by myself at home on my machine, machined from high grade aluminium and polished to a mirror finish - completed with a gel overlay badge centre.
Here's the end product, safe to say I'm really happy with it.
Currently experimenting with fixings/gaskets/UV protection.
If anyone was seriously interested I'm sure I could knock a few more out.
I've even machined the detail into a few badges and then filled with colour matching resins, this method is a lot more time consuming but the results are really good when you get it right.
Let me know what you think .

No denying it looks well crafted but for me it's a no, it just looks wrong for some reason, think it's the font

The top version with the gel overlay is the exact same font used by BMW but agreed, on the resin badge seen in the last picture the font is incorrect but it is the first one I made and then switched to gel overlay to achieve the exact font.
Thanks for the feedback.

Badge looks fine, but I suspect you may be infringing upon BMW's longstanding trademark....

I made the Hartge badges as seen on here a couple of years ago and can appreciate the amount of effort that goes on and could very well be interested but how do they fasten on?
Could it fit my Baur boot lid?
Is that a horizontal m/c and what control system does it come with please?
Mart.

It takes an immense amount of effort to recreate that sort of thing so very well done to that man! i know how long it took and how frustrating it was to get the alpina wheel badges just right.
there are a few people who prefer metal badges over then newer available plastic ones, so maybe if it is perfect you might have a few takers....anyway, well done
just a thought, but with metal work up your street and able to do resins, have you ever considered doing key fobs? the main issue are that there are so many variants...

Thanks for the comment, what size is the badge and is it a contoured badge like on a e30( bent round the shape of the boot)
The machine is a horizontal 5 axis (A/B axis) running a Siemens 840d control.

I was thinking this but I’m not looking to produce thousands, I just really like hand made things and I enjoying making all sorts. I’ve made wheels, turbo fans.

Thanks for your comments, much appreciated.
When you say key fob... which part do you mean?

Some very good work there, well done. Put it this way, if my X5 badges were knackered, I would happily have one to go on it, sadly they are fine.

Had a look at an oem one today, font looks different, I think BMW stretched the width of the B a bit more than your one.
Almost all logos will have unique font.
