BBS 15" as an option... from what year?

Can anyone help with this question?

I can no longer get the homologated tyres for my 14" BBS wheels (so I can't pass the "MOT"), and it has been suggested that I "upgrade" to 15" to get around the problem.

But I really want to leave the car fully OEM. So from what year were BBS 15" available as an optional extra?

...and then searching on the part number (36111179066) for the 15" wheel appears to return a few results saying these were available from 1988 onwards, not sure if that's correct or not?

They are tyres that were designed by both the rubber guys ard the car manufacturer, for best handling etc etc.

Not as "generic" as today's boots

Paul :-)

The log book of a car in Spain has the original tyre size and rating listed, and those are the only ones you an fit.
Mine lists 195/65 R14 V. But try finding a set of those today

The highest speed rating I can get is H, and that's what I use normally, but if I have an accident my insurers could give me some serious trouble.

I do actually have a set of "Vs" on bottletops in storage which I have used for the last 10 years or so to get through the "MOT", but they are getting on a bit now, one day they're gonna shatter

Anyway, it does indeed look like 15" BBS were available for my car, so maybe I should keep a look out for a reasonably priced set...

But does the log book list these as an option? If not, how does that help you?

Without having to get an expensive engineer's report to change the approved tyres, you are allowed to change the wheel / tyre combo as long as the rolling radius does not exceed +/- 3% of the original tyre's rolling radius.

The problem is that even with the +/- 3%, there are no other 14" tyres that are available... I can get 195 / 60 14s, but they are 3.28% smaller...

Why worry about that? You'll get slightly better acceleration, at the slight expense of top speed and maybe some marginal speedo/mileometer error (assuming it's accurate with the standard tyres).

One in V rating here -

I think I'd have to object on moral reasons to paying that much for a 14 inch tyre though.

Because it won't get through the Spanish MOT.

8O 4 of them are worth more than my car!

For that money I certainly can upgrade to 15".

Thanks, but in 15" there is no problem to get V rated anywhere. It's 14" that I'm looking for.
