E30 Zone

I'm after opinions on which tires to fit to a set of 15" BBS RZ's? Until now I've been running on bottle tops but would like to hear what people are finding to be good on the BBS's as I'm looking to buy a set.

Bridgestone potenza adrenaline here in correct 205/55r15 size. No complaints for everyday driving

Reasonably priced too, and they look good (cos that's what matters with tyres, right?)

That's it then sold - as long as they look good! Haha, thanks, that's all I'm after just decent everyday driving.

I recently fitted a set of Uniroyal Rainsport 3 and I am very pleased with them, definitely more grip than I had before

Did you notice good grip in the dry too? That seems very good wet performance

I have rain sport 3s on the rear of my 330d. I won't be buying then again. Grip seems good, but they weave around horrifically compared to the Dunlop's I had before.

A few other reviews online echo this.

I've been reading through a few more reviews and the Bridgestones are looking like the best option. Falken ZIEX seem another choice at a similar price if anyone has anymore comments on either?

Extremely soft and pliable sidewalls. So soft, I can easily mount them onto rims with just a tyre lever.

Thanks Brian, are you stating this as another bad point, I assume this would support the mention of them weaving around horrifically?

Just a comment as to why they might 'weave around'. I've been running a set on my E39 since April and haven't noticed any handling problems with them, and wear rate seems to be better than their Falken predecessors.

I have a set of Uniroyal Rainsport 3's here, brand new and unused - £250. They're 205/55x15.

I've got Falken ZE914s (205x55x15) on my E30 at present (fitted about 2-3 years ago). They're ok. Can't say I've ever really pushed them as they're fitted to a 320i but they're fine in every day use - predictable in the dry and wet, reasonably quiet, last well. They are a far harder compound than the Uniroyals though. They're better than the old ZE912 that was like plastic in the cold but still not great until they have a bit of heat in them. There is no way you'd be putting these on with just a tyre lever!

Can't really comment on their winter use as I switch to a set bottletops with Goodyear Ultragrips once the weather gets cold. The Goodyears are far quieter (near non-existent tyre noise) and ride comfort is immense in comparison but that's 70 profile balloon tyres for you!

Thanks for the offer but after a few reviews and advice on here I think I'll be going for the Falkens or Bridgestones when the time comes.

Darkchild - Now I'm going to have the spare set of bottletops I may go down the same route for winter driving. What size do you have the Ultragrips in, I cant find them in the normal 195/65/14?

I think mine are 175x70x14. Your handbook should list the correct sizes - I think there were 2-3 options for 14" wheels.

The car looks hilarious on such skinny rubber but the Goodyear Ultragrips are a superb tyre. A few years ago, I took our E30 up to Scotland in February. They coped fantastically in rain, slush and snow and we didn't get stuck once. They're not for "enthusiastic" driving and cornering has to be done at fairly sedate speeds but as a winter tyre they're excellent.

I too am looking for some tyres for my BBS RZ 15" wheels. Has anyone bought Toyo Proxes T1R for their E30 and can provide feedback on how they perform? Seem to remember they faired well from a few car magazine articles.

Had T1R's load of times - they're ok for the price!!! Not bad, not the best!!!

Was looking for something different so I went for some Dunlop Sportmaxx RT (I think) on the front of mine last time, which seem pretty good.
Was going to put them on the rear as well, but they weren't available in my size (running 225/45/16) so bought a pair of Yokohamas for the rear and they seem very grippy!!!

I also use 14's with super skinny winter tyres in the winter!!!

I've heard that the Toyo's are pretty awful in the wet, which is always something I'd consider.

At the moment I've 195 55's on the bottle tops but think I'll go for the supper skinny's for the winter and keep the RZ's with the a set of Bridgestone Adrenaline for the summer. That will most likely change by the time I actually come round to needing new tyres!

Thanks, didn't know about the performance in the wet. As I have a cabbie that really only surfaces on sunny days I may give them a go. Please let us know how the Bridgestones do!

T1R's are rubbish, id never buy them again. They were ok when they were £40 odd a tyre when compared with similar priced tyres, but the brand in general has now fallen well below other brands.
If it were me id be buying those Uniroyals off Andyboy, ive seen cars flying around race tracks on them in the howling rain like its dry, fantastic tyres

Yokohama are very good, I run the ADO8 R's on my track car for wet/damp conditions and they perform really well

Ive had Bridgestone Potenzas before and thought they were also pretty rubbish

Continental are great but you may struggle to get them in the correct size
