im after some new tyres for my 15" bbs, ive read up that uniroyals 3's and continental sport contact 2's are decent, but anyone else have other experience or know where the best place is to buy and get them fitted...

Tyreleader is about the cheapest place at the moment to buy tyres.
Always fit my own, so can't help you there, other than to say that the Uniroyals are like no other tyre I've fitted - sidewalls are so soft and pliant that they are an easy DIY fit with a large screwdriver.

Ive used both tyreleader and cartyres.com recently. Both very competetive but cartyres.com will give you a fully fitted price whereas last time i used tyreleader it wouldnt - just delivery to teh fitters and negitiate fitting costs with them.
Used to use blackcircles but all that TV advertising must have cost a fortune as their prices are rubbish now.

I work at Halfords and we are very cheap for tyres at the minute, also look at car tyres/asda tyres/online tyre store. Some tyre prices are ridiculously cheap, we've been fitting tyres that cost us more than what they're being sold out at.

Ordered a set of Bridgestones from this site today. They will deliver to a garage in your town/city and you get them to fit them. Very easy process.

Only problem (which I am waiting for a response on) is that each tyre was displayed at £55, but the final invoice stated £59.

I know they are shipping from Germany, so perhaps their website isn't clever enough to work out the exchange rate...?

Every time the Brexit nutters sound off the pound drops like a stone, but the price I paid a month ago was the price displayed.

That's interesting Brian. the Price displayed was definitely not the price I paid. I'll keep you guys posted on their response.

Thanks for all the replies, as for tyres what are falkens Ze914 like compared to uniroyals rain sport 3, as I've heard uniroyals don't last as long as falkens...

914s lasted me about 7000 miles. Can't comment on the Rainsports yet, since they've only been on less than a month, but the 400 miles of mountain hairpin bends that I drove over the weekend won't have helped!

If you have a look at the fuel efficiency rating for both tyres, the Falkens are rating C and the Uniroyals are rating E.

I think this rating is based on its rolling resistance, in other words a C rating is more efficient due to less road resistance, And an E rating is less efficient due to more resistance. This suggests a softer compound on the uniroyals than the Falkens, therefore, a higher wear rate?

Here's an update on this. I received an email informing me that their prices change on a daily basis and I was advised to look at their site today. I did and responded as follows:



Hi Marie,

I have taken a look at your website, which is where I purchased from yesterday.

The tyre price this morning is showing as £56.29 each so a set of 4 = £225.16

When I placed my order on 6th June, the price was stated as £55.89, however, on checkout, I have been charged £59.39 each. 4 = £237.56

Even at today’s price you are cheaper than £59.39!!

There is an error and I have been overcharged. Please arrange a credit for the difference.

They cancelled my order!! I expect to receive a credit for this in due course. However, I re-ordered at today's price. Everything seems to have gone through, but I'll be surprised if the tyres turn up at my designated garage this Friday for the planned fitting....

If there is a further problem, I will simply purchase from their competitors.

I've had ZE914s on mine. Difficult to know the exact mileage I've done with them as I transfer my winter wheels with Goodyear Ultragrips on when things get chilly. I'd estimate I've done about 9-10K with them and they have hardly have any wear. As long as you don't drive too "enthusiastically", you'll get decent mileage out of them. They're quite a hard compound. My only real gripe is that they lack a bit of bite when cold but they're infinitely better than the previous generation ZE912. Perfectly acceptable for usual road use, a good all rounder.

??? Other way around in the size I bought (225 x 55 16)

On my 'other' BMW (2009 1 Series) I ran Falken 452s - great tyres. I recently put Uniroyals on the rear; definitely trading some higher wear for better grip. I nearly always find Event Tyres to be the best price for fully fitted at home. Otherwise the companies already mentioned.
