Depends a lot on what the proposed usage of the M3 is.

Mainly road use with a odd bit of track use. Something decent and reliable with good adjustments.

What is your budget?

There's a lot to be said for decent non adjustable dampers such as Bilstein B8's. Coil over strut conversions can be welded on to give you height adjustment

I don't really have a budget just want the right kit as in ride quality, adjustments etc. Are the coilover kits a direct fit or do they need some playing around?

AST are about as good as you can get within reason (I.e. not £10k racing stuff). £3,250 for their top of the line stuff. On a lower budget, BC's are very good value for money. I've driven a couple of cars with them and can't fault them for the price. My friend has been using them on his daily for a year or 2 with no complaints. Adjustments are basic though.

I do not recommend Gaz Golds. One of my cars came with them and they were sold. Never felt right and other people report similar things. The finish on them is also poor.

All coil overs for e30's need a bit of fiddling. Unlike e36's etc where the hub bolts to the strut, it is welded on an e30 so the strut needs to be cut, the outer sleeve of the coil over welded to it and then the shock screws in.

I use Billie's on my daily with threaded bodies for the spring adjustment. Same process as converting a normal e30 strut to coil overs

I had second hand KW's on my old E30 and they were ok on the road, i decided i needed an upgrade & the clear obvious choice for me was a set of AST's, you do need to do your homework though,( IE: spring rate, length etc) the build quality is superb and AST will customise to suit your needs too.

I bought the 5100 fronts & getting 5300 rears. I can't have a canister under the bonnet (bit too race car for me), but can hide them on the rears, i also have it on good authority that the 5100, will exceed my expectations.
