Really.... ??

Don't they sound a little boring, i mean something with a bit more reverb would be better right ??

There's reverb and there's downright tinniness. Stainless is usually so thin that they sound cheap and nasty. OEM every time.

The oem exhaust for a 325i which is no different on a sport is made by boysen in mild steel but to a high quality that they can last 20+ years unlike some bosal or timax mild steel junk from the likes of ECP or Kwik fit.

The Drunkdriverautisticspaz is a banging zaust but really rare. Plenty of reverb, gets the bitchez dripping/kicking you out of their house :D

They sound and look best standard in my opinion, not an intrusive noise just a lovely deep burble the way they were designed. Some of these stainless ones are really loud and completely take away from the gorgeous 6 cylinder note to make way for a sound more akin to "wee Davey's Corsa".

Has to be a Boysen imho.

For my taste, they sound perfect. That and mine is 27 years old this year! Alas, with replicated tail pipe trims as the originals are/were NLA, un-fortunately. :(

Are you saying these are still available and if so from where?
I'm confused because when I enquired last year at dealers, I was told the twin pipe system for 86 325i was nla.
If you know from where to buy would you please post details.

I contacted my local dealer and Cotswolds BMW via the zone. See the link to my post

This was for an '87 325i car with 3 piece system. I'm assuming it was still going to be a full twin pipe setup.

I contacted Boysen in Germany today and they have confirmed they no longer produce an exhaust for the 325i, could it be that BMW have a different OEM manufacturer, perhaps Eberspacher?

That's very useful and up-to-date info, thank you for that......so where do we go from here, anyone any thoughts, especially Mr bss325i ?
I was going to email Cotswolds tonight (in fact I will still do so) armed with this knowledge.
Desperate to remain OEM, ideas please.

I know Boysen did one sell direct via Euro car parts here in the UK but have not done for some time.

I also know that some OEM BMW exhausts are made by Eberspacher but not sure if the current E30 ones are made by them.

Last time i bought a new 325i exhaust, ( 3 piece system centre and rear sections) was in 2013/4 and they were Boysen.

You used to be able to get an Eberspacher exhaust from ECP until quite recently. Now they only stock Klarius/Timax rubbish. Shame. :(

Clicking on the link in the recent "wood trim" thread led me to this: I know absolutely nothing about it, other than it's mild steel and reassuringly expensive.

Yes thank you, have seen this on etk, it's the back box I think. Very expensive at the best part of £500 for a back box! Are the prices shown on etk (in euros) not accurate, have you got price from dealers?

Contacted "Cotswolds" today asking for price, part numbers, manufacturer etc, for full system, giving car, reg, VIN details. They replied with a detailed list of parts, part numbers and prices. He then asked if it was a 3 part system for LHD!!! Checked on etk and cannot match his numbers to etk's. Don't know whether I got a new starter or work experience person but not impressed. I'll chase it all again tomorrow, he may be more alert after a nights sleep!
Incidentally he quoted £703 for full 3 part system, nuts, bolts, gaskets, clamps, bushes etc, but not sure for what! Can't possibly be right can it.

Never ask the dealers.. they don't know their arse from their elbow.

That is the price that you could get it for today. No one will know the manufacturer until it turns up.. (unless someone on here has bought a genuine exhaust recently).

The old man that owned my 320i before me.. got a new full exhaust in 2011 and paid nearly a grand for the parts.

After much emailing with Cotwolds asking for a full OEM system for my 325i, this is what they've come up with.....

Image

Note the price £1218.20
Going through the part numbers on "etk" this is what they're suggesting......
FRONT Twin down pipes from common flange on manifold, finishing with two separate flanges.......
MIDDLE Two flanges on middle box, with single pipe exiting and extending towards rear, which will connect to......
BACK Single pipe entry into back box, with single tailpipe.

This is obviously not a twin pipe system and I think will look rubbish with a single tailpipe. And certainly not as original. Plus...the price!
I don't know what to think, is the original twin pipe nla? Are Cotswolds not giving me proper info (have been many errors getting to this stage)
Any thoughts, becoming disillusioned.

The diagram for 325i exhaust back box's show single pipe on the catalogue but are in fact twin.

Also, just checked your part numbers and they are all correct for a twin pipe 3 piece 325i system.
