Quicker diff changes

Hiya
Has anyone drilled their boot floor so that you can get a socket through it for quicker diff changes?
If so, do you have the measurements to hand by any chance?

Not a bad idea tbh - some neat & tidy holes and grommets to fill them

Best bet is take your diff out and do it from the underside. A hole for a socket will be pretty large so got some margin there

I used to fit studs to the diffs I used when oval racing. Id still have to use a spanner to get at the top bolts but it was much easier to line the diff up with the subframe holes - with the diff on a jack Id just pump it up until the studs pop through the subframe and then just catch the nuts onto the threads. Job jobbed and no more fiddling around trying to line the bolts up blind.

I was thinking of having the hole big enough for the socket extension rather then the socket itself

Not really sorry. I think the thread is M12, but you'd have to check.
I had some bolts floating around, so bolted them into the diff with loctite and cut the head off. There's plenty of room for the lower front studs, but the upper rears are quite close to the floor. As long as there's enough stud poking through the subframe to fully engage the nut it won't be a problem.

Ive done a few for people, pilot hole it from underneath then hole saw from the top

How about machine some spacers up and a spreader plate in the boot with longer bolts right the way through? Will transfer more noise though

For what I did?
I've no idea on the final length. The bolts I had to hand were probably 100mm long to begin with and I cut them to length once they were bolted to the diff (the standard diff bolts are 25mm iirc). I cut the heads off (leaving me with 4 long studs threadlocked to the diff) so they would pass through the subframe holes, offered the diff up and trial and error did the rest.
