Hello.
Uno the bumper vents that go into the car.
Is there a cover I can get for them?
The car keeps leaking through it I cleaned it all out but it still comes.
Although it is sitting there unused, but this shouldn't still be happening.
I left it for about a week, I looked today there was like an inch water in there, so I done the usual and drilled a tiny hole in it.
But there must be some kinda fix.

No sealing the vents to cover available, and no cover needed. There should be a thin rubber gasket sealing each vent to the body, and if these are missing, water will come in.

It must be something else, these have never been removed.
Was fine before, only now it's happened, like the last day but tomorrow we'll find out.

Gaskets have been known to break and fall off without the vent ever having been removed.

It's also worth pulling the boot seal off as the lip it attaches to rusts away unseen and as soon as it does the water running in the gully round the seal just goes into the boot.

I fully agree that the water is likely to be getting in somewhere else other than the vents, but I answer the question as asked. The OP stated "The car keeps leaking through it" not "Could the car be leaking through it?"
Under the boot seal is very likely, or it could simply be coming over the seal if the car is parked at all facing down hill, and the boot hinges and catch aren't adjusted properly.

if your car has a sunroof the rear of the cassette drains to these vents just check the pipes are firmly in place !

I also have a similar problem, and have replaced the vent seals, boot seal, light gaskets, and still it leaks from the DS vent.. I can actually see the water trickle out of it if I direct a pressure washer at the side of the car. The sunroof pipe is also in place and not blocked.

Very annoying, but I'm learning to live with it now :(

Found it to be the light seal.
So while I wait on them parts, I've used silicone around it.

Can I test the fuel level sender?
If so how.

How many do you have? Varies with tank size.

Should vary from about 60 ohms when empty to just a few ohms or zero when full.
Difficulty, of course, is filling or emptying the tank while monitoring the fuel level, although it can be done if someone fills the tank slowly at a petrol station, while you monitor a ohmmeter connected to the sensor.
If you are trying to narrow down the cause of a jumping gauge, or similar, it's easier to just connect a resistor of (say) 33 ohms across the sensor's plug terminals, and see if that results in a stable reading of about half.

My fuel level at instrument cluster.
I checked the clocks with nothing wrong
Image

All cables fitted securely .
No feedback from the sender.
All it does when the ignition is switched on, lift up a slight bit under the light and stay there,The level will stay there for what seems like forever. At the moment the car is immobile but does what it needs to, so I'm not sure what the fuel levels saying at the moment.but it's below the light which isn't even on the scale.
Everything else works but this... And my alarm :x :x

Fresh air enters an E30 through the grills on the scuttle, and is directed through the footwell, the dash vents, and/or up across the front screen according to the position of the heater sliders. Air passes through the cabin, down across the rear screen, keeping it clear, through the slots at the rear of the parcel shelf, into the boot, down through the boot, keeping it aired, and out through the one way flaps behind the bumper sides.
I'm aware that several of the E30s on here have a few extra entry and exit points, but the above is what BMW intended.

Reconnect the plugs on the cluster, access the level sender under the rear seat, and pull the three pin plug off.
Turn on the ignition and use a short piece of wire to link together the brown and brown/grey wires of the plug.
This should make the low fuel light come on.
Remove the wire link and connect it between the brown and brown/green wires instead.
This should make the fuel gauge read full.
If both these things happen, then you level sender is probably faulty.
If NEITHER of these things happen, check for continuity (with a meter) between the brown wire at the plug and a good body earth.
If the light works, but the gauge doesn't, check for continuity between the brown/green wire at the plug and the other end of the same wire at pin 4 of the white plug to the instrument cluster. The easiest way to identify the pin and get at the wire is to cut the little cable tie, and remove the back cover of the plug.

55l sender is 4-60ohms.

Could be a rotten fuel/speed sensor harness connection if the boot was leaking water. The loom likes to carry water down the fabric tape on the passenger side.......

Not rained here lately, been pretty sunny too.
So I'm hoping it will start working again.
Do cars over 25 years old actually need a working fuel level ?
