Will battery relocation kit fit e30 Touring?

Hello guys,

Very quick question. Will the batt relocation kit popular among the coupe owners fit the e30 Touring?

Am not sure about the cable canal under the back seats and the battery tray. Is it the same as other e30 shells?

Thanks

There shouldn't be any problems, since there's no difference in the lengths of the shells across those points. However, the cable is a notoriously tight fit, so if you can get your hands on an E36 cable instead it'll give you a bit more leeway.

There's a Wiki guide to help you out:

+ 1 on the struggle to fix the cable to the battery.
A lot of sweat and swearing got the job done finally.

There is a difference in cable length (touring cable is longer), the plastic cover (Cover: 51471947326) over the battery is specific to the touring also the trim panel (flap panel right: 51471972454). It provides room for the battery.

You can use the parts out of a 324td or 325ix touring

If you have a fitted factory rubber mat it will no longer fit correctly.

As stated above you can use the e36 cable if you are unable to find the correct one.

As above, there is bump in the floor of the touring where the seats mount/pivot. It makes the cable a little too tight.
It will fit but its bloody tight.

This is extremely interesting. It could explain why I could not find the relocation kit in my e30 touring 318i parts breakdown on realoem. I had a coupe relocation kit and it seems like some of its parts wouldn't work on touring. Gotta source some parts for this upgrade. Shyte!

Pretty much all tourings has the battery under the bonnet as the battery is used as a ballast weight.

It went in the back on 6 cylinder saloons and ix/Td tourings as the front of the car is heavier than the smaller/lighter engined versions.

The touring obviously has more metal at the rear so to keep them feeling similar they kept the ballast at the front.

Got to do this in my Touring too. Anyone know the current price of the battery tray?

I'd be interesting to know too - they're seemingly impossible to find second hand :( (Mine got lost at the body shop)

Price from Cotswolds:

The price on the battery tray is £22.25 inc VAT (51711953889)
Securing clamp with bolt £15.83 inc VAT (61217564274)

Surprising how the tray is cheaper than the $ price on RealOEM, yet the clamp is several times more (I think it's sub $2 on RealOEM).

I made my own cable with 50mm2 cable from the back and to the dashboard, because I have a main-power switch there. In the enginebay I used an E34 M5 (any E34 with battery under the seats have this terminal) battery terminal. In the boot I welded a tray with angeled iron, and welded two thread-rods to in to secure the battery.

That's a pure DIY without all these sexy looking kits and trays )))

I thought I had a better picture comparing both the standard and ix/diesel touring boot panel, it's quite obvious though from the pic below that the panel is different

I had some trouble fitting the lot with the ix cable I have and did a bit of digging to find out how the cable routes. Don't have a pic to hand but if anyone needs it I can have a look for it.
