i'm doing the conversion to 2.5 this weekend hopefully and not sure about exhausts. should i go for a full scorpion system Lemans pipes or another aftermarket, or should i go standard. i like the look of the standard ones with the exhaust trim.

Depends what you're after mate, I have a standard system - at idle and low revs it's subtle but after about 3k it starts to get quite loud. I do a lot of late night town driving and a loud exhaust (Scorpion) is like a homing beacon round here!

see thats what puts me off a scorpion. i just think it may be a little too loud. plus mines a cab so the noise would be louder

Ive got the lemans back box and it looks great - not OTT and sounds even beter. A full system would sound awesome!

i am running standard at the moment but its a stainless steel setup. i believe it was changed to this setup early on in its life.

i went for a powerflow stainless steel single pipe(2.5") straight through with a back box similar to the lemans, with two 3"" pipes. nice and deep rumble but not to loud.

ok - just swapped a bosal system for my mongoose. i still have the 6 branch tho. keeps police from noticing me but still have the pro's of a good flowing system. nice and inconspicous with low revs- anything over 3500 and sounds lurvly -
standard exhaust is fine - spend the money on the manifold (u will never regret it)

I'm doing some research in to exhaust systems at the moment, I'm not worried about the manifold I'll pick that up later. I want a full system thats quiet in the low revs but still holds some presence (e.g. a nice deep rumble) and something thats really kicks in about 3k anyone got any experiance of something like this?

This is true.
Unless your going to spend hundreds on an eisemenn or a blueflame, then sebring and supersprint really cant be beaten for quality of material. iv seen two sebring systems on two different cars and both are superb pieces of kit
as the old saying goes "you get what you pay for"

i got a scorpian rear box.. but it's got dtm's and it's ruining the bodywork at the exits(touring.. so I get exhaust fumes on my rear window.. great for a greasy rear view)

gonna see if I can chop the upturned bits off and run it like that.. or get some pipes to cover it. I like the boxer look though!

Mine did that, i took it down to a custom exhaust place and he put 2 sorta extensions on the backbox, sticks out the right lenth now.

Same for me, the guys there really know what there talking about. They did the project M3 for total BMW a few years back aswell.
Full system with dtm tails, fully fitted and a lifetime guarentee for Ԛ£450 cant be bad

Dont they fabricate everything there specifically for your car?

Yea, it took them around 5 hours to fit mine, all custom made

Mine is just like u say, loads of low bass. Just imagine standard accept louder is my system. So nice noise when u open up.
I would recommend my quicksilver Nav but they are wankers and i had alot of grief getting it to fit right. Has standard black tailpipe trim to.
Loads of peeps have heard it

yeh si, i love yours, its just right i think. what you wanna sell it to me

. dont think i'll be going to them to make one as there around Ԛ£600 now arent they?

Thats for the proper Alpina one. Turns out mine is just Quicksilvers stainless system for a 325i. Long story don't ask.
But mine did give 7lbs of torque over standard on the dyno this year. So theres something there.
I would think my system is alot cheaper more like Ԛ£400 for the whole lot.
I have their number if u want it. Just make sure they make yours out if a higher grade stainless steel than mine. If it didn't sound good it would gone in the bin!

pretty much damn even spread of votes there..
Scorpians are reputed to lose power or something arent they tho?!
Posted: Thu Jan 12, 2006 11:16 pm
by Kos
not being funny or anything, but i dont think the gains or losses will be noticable, if you have a standard manifold the rest of the system is not going to make too much difference.
but if you have tuned /modified engine which have alrtered the characteristics of with cams and head work then they will make more of a difference.
just get something you like the look and sound of, powerflow at st.albans could be your best bet?? any choice of tailpipe and if you think it too loud they can change the boxes for you at a lated date.

agree with kos, thats what my dad said as well...
ive gone with a powerflow... got it done yesterday...
M3 tailpipes --- though one with 3mm bigger then the other for some reason dont sound like much but its annoying me, both mean to be 3 inchs.
also told them to keep it down, and they did, sound is alright, though my friend has a back box only on a clio, and it sounds similar? double the price? same noise and i think his looks a bit better :/
make sure they do it right... mine wobbly... gonna have word later...
