E30 Zone

Any recommendations on what make and model of tyres to put on my 15" wheels.

Currently got nearly new r888's and think they're over kill for trundling up and down the road

The OEM Size of 205/55 has a few more options today compared to a a couple of years back as this is a standard size on one of the new audis

So, what you fit depends on your budget.

Uniroyal rainsport 3 is a seriously good performer and at £63 is a good price

Heard good things about the Rainsport 3 and that sounds a reasonable price

Put a set of kumho ecsta sport on mine last spring, found them to be great no issues at all ,,it's never driven in rain

What are the main tyre brands that make this size ?

Continentals, Vredestein Sportrac 5s and Uniroyal Rainsport 3s are all excellent.

Falken ZE914s & Kumho KU31s are the best of the midrange options.

They would be KU31's, I may be wrong but they went out of production couple of years ago and were superseded by KU39's which are not available in 205/55r15

If you do find them then it's quite probably they have been sitting on the shelf for at least couple of years. If they've been stored correctly they will be fine.

I just went from a set of crap anonymous budgets to a set of Goodyear efficient grips.. Braking is better in the rain I'll admit.. but drivability I've not noticed any difference whatsoever!

I run yokohama advan and will be upgrading them to either parada spec-2 or vred sportrack 5 in march. The advan are good tyres but you got to pump the rears up higher than fronts to get the best out of them. I use 15" toyo proxis t1r for track and sprint days. They are good but lacking in the wet. Uniroyal rainsport 2 was the best wet tyre I tested. Also noticed that 14's pumped up to 35 psi allow faster and more stable drive and turn in wet weather but worse braking. 16' have the best braking and all round stability. So I run those on my daily wheels now.

I was contemplating toyo proxies @ £226 for a set of four for my cab - it doesn't see rain. These are the cheapest mid-range tyres I have found that I'd be happy to use.

With the mileage the cab does, the tyres would need replacing through age rather than wear.

+1 for the uniroyal rainsport's

I have run rainsport 2's on my e30 for 3years, they are on my main 'daily' wheels and have seen best part of 15k miles still have loads of tread left, handle reliably and give plenty of grip in wet conditions.

As for getting knackered with age, you should be alright depending how your stores them/the car

Should be fine for at least 5 years probably longer
