What a day! Crash damage! ADVICE PLEASE. PICS INSIDE

I have had a day and a half! After getting a £100 ticket, for no seatbelt this morning, yes £100 pound!!! Some prize p**ck decided to jump a red light and do this to my car!
I was waiting at a red light on an ajoining road and i was first in the que at the lights. The light turned green and this idiot jumped the red light and scraped right accross the front of my car from the D/S to the O/S and and i just heard a bang and seen his rear bumper flying off down the road. Couldnt bloody believe it!! Lucky i was a bit slow off the mark at the lates otherwise hed have been in my drivers door, with me on the other side of it, and he was going some speed aswell. Pulled over and seen him just driving thinking great hes going to bunk off aswell. Went to go grab his bumper out the road to get his number plate then got on the fone to the old bill. Anyway then next thing, hes turned up having parked round the corner because he couldnt stop on the dual carriageway red root. Straight away i could tell he was shifty looking character, suited and booted but there was something about, he wanted to get gone, i could tell. So got round to getting details of him, and went down to look at his car where hes parked, and tops up its a rental car. He said i was sneezing and didnt nitice he went through a red light...BOLLOX. So got his details, and got a pick up sharpish, and left his car even though it was total driveable, a bit suspicious if you ask me? Then the old bill turn up take his and mine details off me and tell me they will go and see if they can catch up with him. Tried to get my car half sorted to get ne home, luckily mechanically seems to driving ok. Then driving home i get a call from the old bill..."We have looked him up, he doesnt have s valid drivers license"...typical, so my instinct was right, he was a shady toe rag! And "Can we use your details as a witness for no license?" Well duhhhh, yea course! So then im thinking well him with no license means no insurance?! But the copper said i should be ok because its a rental car! Hopefully!
I dont know what to do know because undoutadly the insurance will write ut off because of the age and value, but i dont want to see my touring go! How does it work if i claim and they pay out do i still get to keep the car? Dont know what to now.
Can anyone shed on light on it or know anything useful that could help me? I have got two witnesses aswell.
Any help would be appreciated.

now you have the car home don't let the insurance company take it away to their yard .
an insurance loss assessor will come and look at the damage,if it gets written off you can buy it back for next to nothing, fix it and keep it

100% an insurance write off, I had similar damage once, I told the insurance there was no damage to my car so they did not need to come asses it, was the cheapest option also meant the car now doesent have cat c on the logbook

An assessor may come to you, or the may ask you to drive it to an assessor, but at no time hand over the keys or lose possession of the car
You probably won't even have to buy it back. The insurance will pay up, ask you to surrender the V5C, and try to arrange for the collection of your car. Cash the cheque and ignore the rest.
They won't pursue it, because the paperwork and collection costs exceed what they'll get paid for the wreck.

To repair that you'll probably need some serious welding done. It looks like the outer wing has pulled the inner wing clean off the slam panel, although it's not too clear in those pics.
I really feel for you. Don't let the insurers take that car off you!

What Brian says. Margins are so tight in the insurance business and the public purse is so empty, no one will come after you.

If your car is damaged by another party they cannot write the car off without your agreement unless the car is unsafe to return to the road. They will probably try to get you to agree to write the car off. If it comes to claiming from your insurance it might be different.

That's where you and the insurance company negotiate a value that they pay out to settle the claim once and for all. Then, they close their case file on it.

I had a similar when stopped at a red light although not as much damage as yours . She hit the rear corner of mine and drove off but I got her reg , I called plod to report a failing to stop and was told that as I wasn't hurt they weren't coming out and that I had to go in with all my details to make it official . I then registered with e30beemerlad and told then that my tourer would be totalled but wanted to keep it . I got a call from e30beemerlad outfit to get me a hire car which I said I didn't need , then a few days later I had another call asking if I was hurt at all no matter how slight and I said I was fine . Police then called to say they had contacted the other driver and she would call me which she did and then sent me a cheque so all sorted without insurance . After the initial ambulance chasers from e30beemerlad I still have not heard back from them two months on .

So what your basiclly saying is that they will ask me to hand over the v5, but just because they are askin me to, dont give it to them yea? Because odviously once, if i give them them the v5 the belongs to them and im screwed yea?

when you see the loss assessor don't mention buying it back ,wait till they offer you the option and don't let the car leave your place .

To be honest from my experience if you have a newish car and are hurt or need a rental they could be OK , if you have an old turd like me where minor damage will total it and you just want paying for repairs it's a waste of your time .

Even though the other fool had no licence, he is identified and therefore the insurers of the hire car will have to cough.
It may take a while though as much will depend on what nonsense the other driver reports (if anything) as he probably was not an authorised driver of the hire car as they would not have let him hire the car unless he could produce his licence.
If you just want a settlement for the car then I can help out, if you want all the bells & whistles, I can help out.
It's up to you.
Sanitroc1 - sorry you didn't get what you were after when you had a smack. You will have spoken with our contact centre who are programmed to offer full accident management service. You should have contacted me directly after they had offered hire cars and all the jazz and I could have just arranged an independent engineer to inspect the car and claim the repair/ cash in-lieu or write off figure. The Free Motor Legal scheme is much more set up for the average motorist with a newer vehicle.

You would have thought so, but the bloke gave me his copy of the renatl agreement from the rental company with all his name address and details on it. So i have evidence. Probarly wasnt his best move leaving me that, but could be good for me i guess?

Go to any claims company and that way you get paid out for the value of your car and more then likely keep the car, also this way it will not effect your no claims.
If you need any assistance pm me and I can help you out.

Sorry to hear about this Rich, its something we all dread! As I say, when you pass your driving test 25% of your energy goes into driving, the other 75% goes into looking out for troglodytes!
