has anybody on here tried this swap ? I mean it's already 231 bhp on tap instead of trying to harverst it from the m52 or is the wiring / ecu stuff tough ?

E46 330ci 3.0 lt engine, ports opened out for M50 2.5 (e36) manifold, converted to single vanos, running on M52 2.5(later e36) non EWS single vanos ecu/maf etc. rolling roaded without a remap at 251 bhp.

Don't want to rip it to shreds but could just be a 3ltr crank swap.

And ill drink cat piss if it makes 251bhp.

Sounds like a big job compared to a m52 conversion

Sounds like a very odd combo, that lump would have the "cathedral" ports so would have taken a later 330ci manifold with no issues, with that it would have done 260 but not so sure with the ports massaged and an m50 manifold, sounds like a step backwards.
Other than that it is a stunning job of the replica.

Good looking replica. If it was LHD it would fool most as being an original M3

Its not. I met the guy who built it and sold him some bits

IIRC he was from Nottingham and was a BMW specialist / breaker.

Pete has the knowledge of the build, so could be a good one for a different engine

'ringer' is usually my first thought when you see a replica that's a bit too good, as sad as that is.
However, i wouldn't expect a rung, rhd converted proper m3 to be using compact rear arms, or to have retrofitted a normal lockstrip fitting front windscreen.

Guessing you've not read the above posts?
Looks a decent car and reasonably priced TBH, with what it cost to do the conversion + paint etc. Assuming it is done properly and is a tidy motor.

Years ago there was a red 318is M3 replica on eBay which was a ringer.

All cars are turds but my turds are birthed from the aftermarth of an Alabama hot pocket which makes them special

There was, it kept getting relisted on eBay.
If its the car I think it is then I know a bit about the history.

Yep, this is that one. I saw it in progress and had the original M42 engine out of it in my old 2 door!
Can't be many out there with porsche brakes. Was definitely done to a high standard and with all original panels.
Engine is definitely running M52 management. Either the current owner or the one before posted on here about it as he was having trouble locating a thermostat housing as the one on it had a sensor of some sort fitted in it.

Can't be the same one. This has had the porsche brakes and 5 lug since it was converted.

Its a narrow market of buyers so its only worth it to someone that really wants what looks like a well built rep.
I doubt you could build the same spec car for less.

Thank you Rtaylor. Very good point. My friends are suggesting it's too much money from a residual perrspective - definitely looks like a well built example, I love it!

Also, and this could just be me, but the rear looks a bit odd, anyone else see anything funny looking?

Nope, just needs the black stripe on the bumpers. The lid looks a little bare without an m3 badge, but its nice that he's left them off.
As for value, then no doubt it cost more to build. I wouldn't pay anywhere near that though. £6k maybe at a push, but for near on ten grand I'd rather have a scruffy real m3 which needed a little tlc than a mint 318is based replica.
