Hi guys,

I'm sure this type of post has been done before but does anyone know roughly how many E30s are still on the road in the UK or at least know a website where I could go and find out?

Just out of interest.

Cheers,

Nick

More than some people seem to think. They're certainly not rare enough yet to warrant the prices some people are asking for turds

still they are getting rarer all the time, you just dont see them around like you used to even just 2 year ago, i hardly ever see them on the road these days around these parts, frag culture has claimed a lot of the weakest, and the best are tucked away being looked after

I normally see either really ratty looking turds or ones that seem loved. Either way I've also noticed a lot less around - not to the point of being rare but definitely less.

There's probably about 4 that I see on a regular basis being used daily localish to me

Up here I see 1 regularly which is a very tidy 1 owner baur still in daily use by an old boy.

Other than that a E30 is a rareity in scotland in general as most have died due to rust.

Would be interesting to know how many are left / how long it will be before they go into the rare category - sounds like ages!

How many left.co.uk might be a place that would interest you. they run quarterly reports on the subject. You would have a job calculating all e30's left though, as it's based on v5 records.

Using that, anything registered as a 325 I Sport, so non descript on year, could be E36's in there if they made one, there were a total of 762 registered as licensed or sorn in q4 of 2012.

More interestingly is there were 806 in Q1, so 44 disappeared off the radar in a year, good work fraggers

My E36 touring is rarer, there were only 82 registered licensed or sorn in Q4 of 2012

I know of a few E30's that 'still exist on paper' but the metal is now serving milk or toasting bread on a regular basis :)

Driven my touring 250 miles today, number of other E30's seen?
0.

Two or three years back,I would have seen two or three.

I always see a few every day. Think lack of MOT's and the fact we don't put salt on the roads mean we have quite a few. Even saw an m3 cab the other day

Shame, but needs must.

I have done such a good job of cleansing the streets out west of 325 quattroportes that I to am having to start culling 325 tourings . One is ready for China , one is on borrowed time and another one was bought today :D

Obviously unlike quattroportes, the fate of tourings is not predetermined but as alas most are now scrap their future is usually a foregone conclusion and it seldom involves a new tax disc :)

Quite.

I can't be arsed to chase the rust, or throw big money at a proper restoration, Simon. It's not serious yet and I reckon I can get it through its next MOT in August. TBH I'm done tinkering on a regular basis, I want something I can just drive and service when it needs it. Age is catching up with me and crawling around a cold garage floor regularly just isn't fun anymore.

Once next winter is out of the way the E30 morselfest will begin in earnest.

E46 330d touring, here I come! :D

Advancing old age aside, fine thanks. Yourself??

Chance I'll have to take, Steve. The E30 is getting to that point now, in any case. :(

It's a case of weighing-up the economics. Realistically, I can't justify the fuel costs on petrol of the E30. It's fine at home on LPG, but finding reliable sources of the stuff in the places we choose to holiday can be a nightmare. On petrol, I've never managed to get over 30mpg out of either of my 2.7s on a run and locally it will barely do 22. The way I drive it probably has a lot to do with it, but if you've got the power you have to use it. Putting an M5x engine is too much hassle for very little (if any) gain in economy. .....And the shell would still need rust cut out and another full respray. Plus, I'd need to buy another car to use while it was being done. For what it would all cost to do properly I can get a nice E46 (or maybe even an early E91), bearing in mind I have plenty of morsels to punt on to recoup some of the outlay, once the E30 is no longer in use.

Now - glass sunroof, Hartge wheels, Recaro seats, detatchable towbar anyone?
