Hi all

There is a thread somewhere about ins. but I can't seem to locate it. I need help and rapido.

I need to get mine renewed and so far, I have had a number of companies refuse to quote me! I can't understand this to be honest. I'll detail my mods below for you to see if this is off the scale. I am 35 yrs old, a civil servant and have 6 yrs (65%) No Claims Bonus.

Disklok Thatcham CAT. 3 Steering Wheel Lock

I have not even fitted the chip I bought from Ant, last Oct.

Question: What do I leave off when asking for a quote? As you can see, most of this stuff is purely looks, not performance. I live in London, park in a secure and private road away from the public road and the car is not visible from the road. I also, have 3 points for speeding on the M11.

Grateful for any help or leads otherwise, I will have to undo the mods ; sell them off; make the car standard and then sell the car and buy a 'standard' car of some sort, ideally a 325i S :) with no mods.

Cheers

I know you need to declare the alloys engine and susspension mods but the rest should be ok.
Check when getting quotes how much ice is covered just incase you need to take out an extra policy on that.
I dont think there bothere about gearknobs etc

hello mate lots of insurance co.s will not insure a car if it is dropped more than 30mm. i have a bit of trouble wih this as i am 23 and my car is dropped 80mm from standard. say its dropped 30mm and claim ignorance to the fact. (i was told it 30mm when i brought it)

OK all, time for an update.

I have phoned around and got a quote from elephant.co.uk for Ԛ£776.00, fully comp. with mods (not all declared).

Today I got a phone call from Performance Direct and they have quoted me Ԛ£412.60 fully comp. with protected NCB or Ԛ£369.19 without  . Excess is Ԛ£250.00. It includes all my mods down to stuff, I've not even put on yet. they just loaded the premium by 25%!

I think they are using an insurer called Grove & Dean. Does anyone have any experience of them? It's cheap yes, but I want to be sure that in the event of an accident, they do pay out and have not folded.
