Shitter. I bought some 50's assuming it'd be negligable.

Going to try it anyway i think TBH. There's no decent options available in 55 (without spending £400!)

Brilliant little Java tool for this here: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Your speedo will be out too never mind what it looks like.

Why would you compromise on the only contact patch you have with the road. Buy the correct tyres even if it costs £400!

Also, what?

http://camskill.co.uk/m53b0s289p0/Car_T ... _205_55R15

That'll be under £400 for 4 of the correct size and some decent brand tyres then, even after fitting!

PMSL at that overreaction.

Contact patch with the road remains the same, both 205mm. Just the profile that differs.

The difference between 205/55/15's and 205/50/15's is looks. That's all.

Will try on my PE2's and see how they look.

The compromise was more aimed at people that buy the cheapest budget utter dross rather than changing the size by 3.4%. :P

Well it isn't just size now is it? ;)

Granted it is only 2mph out at 60 (and speedo will over read) but as the speedo will likely be out anyway, sensible to stick with the correct size. :D

No, it's still only size that differs.

No safety implications like you suggested.

I'd be amazed if all speedos were bang on after 20 years anyway, so not in the slightest bit worried about that.

Just out of interest, if you bought a newer BMW, a 1 series for instance, would you re-fit runflats when they came to need replacing?

The safety is about buying £20 linglongs vs £80 Contis, rather than the size of the tyre. :P
I just wanted to make sure that you do buy/have got decent rubber, but you do anyway so that's beside the point. :)

3.4% difference isn't actually too bad really, I'd still personally only go with the manufacturer specified size though.

I'd never fit runflats, they make the ride crashy and you can put much better rubber on if you go for normal tyres in the correct size. :)

the profile is the percentage of the width.

205/50/15

50% of 205 on a 15" rim.
