Why do you want to know what the 0-60 time is?

It's only numbers on a piece of paper. And you will be dissappointed at the time as E30s are not a fast car in this day and age.

You've also got to consider, weather (wind direction), road conditions as well as the state of the engine (standard or modified in some way) also, drive train (diff, prop etc) before you can even try & work it out.

well thats how I see it anyway.

What do you want this speed FOR? Are you drag racing, hill climbing, tracking, drifting, or just trying to feel a bit more sprightly on the public highways?

if it's for competitive purposes, then the methods are as limitless as the budget. Performance parts, engine rebuilds, cams and turbos will take seconds off your 0-60 time and thousands out of your wallet.

If you just want to be nippy, then an M20B25 is already fast enough to take all 12 points off your license in one session. If you want better performance, look at fitting the Z3 short shifter kit for quicker gear changes while the engine and box are out, and work out what diff is on the car. But if you've upgraded to an E30 from a modern hot hatch, you will always be disappointed. The E30 is just not that kind of car.

How much power do you want?

As said above, what are you using the car for?

Cheap and good don't usually go together

Try Speedtouch on here he sells chips.

A 2.5 will be a massive improvement over a 2.0l donk.

Basically, no. If you want a chip get one from Speedtouch on here.

A chip will only make a difference if the engine is already in good nick. A good service with a new distributor cap and rotor and rebuilt injectors (Injectortune) will give you much better results than any eBay bolt on rubbish. Decent tyres, not linglang tingtong rubbish, will help you get the power down when you need it.

But be warned. These cars are NOT toys. A 325i is a very different beast to a 320i, and if you throw it into a corner it will kick its tail out and you'll be in the ditch, the kerb or a tree in no time.

How much is it putting your insurance up by?

If you're changing the box over I would suggest lightening the flywheel as you'd be stupid not to when it's all apart. It's an amazing addition to any engine and will cause it to rev much more freely.

This will usually cost around £40-60.

This ^

With a good service, standard BMW induction system (don't be fooled by cone filters) Fresh oil and fileters will do it the world of good and a speedtouch chip all for relatively little cost.

After this it is going to start getting expensive...

Exhaust and 6 branch, rebuilds, cams, forced induction etc it is all going to empty your wallet.

Ignore the comedians though who say scrap it etc a good well maintained 325i engine should still have plenty of poke for a car over 20 years old! You might be out dragged by a diesel mondeo but you will be driving an E30 so who cares! 8)
