....so this lunchtime I thought that it would be a good idea to put my cab on gumtree.

3 stupid offers by text within 2 hours. I'm still waiting for the text from webuyanysellusyourcar.com to complete my afternoon.

Yip, I learnt the hard way not to use gumtree.

I hate people that text something along the lines of
"here mate would you take 2k rather than 3?"

Don't make an offer without seeing the car... Vermin with no fooking social etiquette!

I used it to sell an E36 with 200k and a leaking diff a year or so ago. £200 I wanted. Car still drove fine, no major work apart from a diff seal

Within about an hour, 5 text messages with "£50 to break it m8" or "£30 for the seats," usless dribble like that.

Finally got someone to come round the same evening who gave me £175 for it. I just wanted it gone, and I only paid £200 for it and put 10k on it, so worked well for me.

It enabled me to get an ultra rare Mercedes W124 hardtop for absolute peanuts.... when ebay.co.uk, ebay.de and other specific forums had failed for a number of years...

Like everything, there will be good experiences and bad.... I have experienced what stew72 has all too often on autotrader over the years.....

When ever I sell stuff on gumtree.. I usually get a hoard of people wanting me to post it to a Nigerian village, for their nephew studying at the Royal Academy of British Excellence.. then get a duff, ill spelt payment email from paypay followed by barrages of aggressive emails demanding the package to be sent within in 24hours. Quite entertaining I play along with them for a bit then mention 'scam' in an email and they disappear..

I sold my partner's '98 Corolla (replaced with a '89 E34 :D ) on Gumtree. The second person that phoned about it (the day it was listed) offered me the asking price (around $4K from memory) and fronted up with a wad of $100 bills a couple of hours later....worked for me with no listing fee / commission, etc!

Having said that. I have sold a set of Technics 1200's for the asking price. And you're right there no selling fees. Rough with the smooth I guess...

I think its a bit geographical to.

I live in Norfolk which, lets face it is the a*se end of nowhere, so potential buyers probably need to be serious about travelling. I've found local users of gumtree only seem to be interested in very cheap stuff.

My sister stupidly put her e36 coupe on there back in 2009 against my warnings. 3 Nigerians came down on the train from cardiff to look at it and started getting aggressive when she wouldn't take the £2.50 they had on them. She rang me asking me to come over as she was very distressed but i was out of town. I told her to go back into the house and call the police on the black bastards which she did. Every cloud has a silver lining though, as she sold it to me for a very good price of which i then tidied and sold to a purchaser with money.

If you really hate someone advertise a 530d on an 05 plate for £1900 with their number.
