got the rear stripped and started prodding around for rust, surprisingly my cars pretty solid and i only found a few bits which are now fertanned,

ive got a tin of waxoyl which i might apply, but id prefer the oem shizzle which seems to of done well for 20 odd years!

where abouts can i get it from, i rang bmw they didnt have a clue?

nah i scraped it further and fresh metal underneath no holes and its solid, gave it a good tap no indentation at all, only that small patch essentially surface rust, and theres clean metal all around it so no biggy,

let fertan do the job overnight!

Checked the x-works thread? I think he undersealed with something similar to OEM. Failing that, paints4u is the place to go for all things paint related.

Original underseal is a polyurethane type. It comes as two pack, as a brushable air drying sealant in a tin, or for small patches like that, polyurethane sealant in a tube (Tigerseal or similar) will do. Can be brushed out with white spirit on a small stiff paintbrush.

tiger seal is very good stuff, but im not so sure its to be used there ? your better off scraping the whole lot right back as above,and checking it all right out, particularly around joins and contours, and re seal the lot properly

whats that geniune stuff that you mentioned before brian with the applicator gun ?

Frost auto restoration supplies do an excellent rubberised underbody sealant and rust encapsulator from Eastwood.
Although I personally wouldn't use it over the top of rust , it is marketed as a product which will stick to anything including rust and is recommended as way of stopping the elements getting to rusty patches and making them worse prior to repair , as well as a means of stopping the onset of corrosion in the first place.
This is the most similar stuff I've ever seen to proper 1970's/80's factory sealant and really does do the job properly.

Only bother is , at £20 a can it is rather expensive... but worth it!
