old e28 525 engine

is it the same as my face lift 325 ive herd sumthing about compression being different???
is that all (i no the loom and crank and stuff are different )
but bare engines side by side could they be swaped...

E28 525i is M30. Different engine altogether.
525e is M20. 2.7 eta version. That block attached to a better head etc. Is worthwhile. See the 2.7 section in the engine swaps bit.

So, to convert a2.5 into a 2.7 you will need a e28 525e not 525i but e, what transmission is required auto? Or dose it matter

All 525e were auto IIRC. You'll need flywheel clutch, and spigot bush from an M20 to convert to manual.
