v8 into e30

i know of two that have been done, is there any info on the web about this conversion using a 4.0l or 4.4l engine from say a 540 or 740 or 840??

like what mounts to use etc....

or is it a proper full on one-off type thing at the moment

having seen an e30 m3 v8 on track at rockingham (the one that was in tbmw) it would make an awesome machine!!- and what a sound!!

Stick to you your high revving M5 engine. More power from the word go aswell.

u should feel the low rev BANG of a B10 4.6 v8 dude- its madness!!

i am sticking to the s36 for mine dont worry

this i just something id like to do eventually- oh well i can dream :cool:

the handling would be a lot better than what mine will be like!!, cos of reduced overhang over front

Personally I'm not a fan of the M60/62 range of engines... not as reliable or watertight as you'd think :lol:

if you want a V8 e30, fit a tuned rover V8, its a bmw engine so the purists needn't be offended and running carbs and dizzy can be tuned far easier and cheaper than the multi valve alternatives. The rover is also all ally so weight is not an issue.

just thought I'd add that as an alternative 8)

my dads b10 has had many 'issues' with it since he's had it...... thank god for warranties.

in fact last month he started it once and it made a knocking noise. he then started it again and it knocked for a few secs then ran fine...

is this the bucket tappets???, cars done 80k miles and is literally as new, it was rather worrying

i spoke to him at ace cafe a while back.... and hes done a tvr lump (4.5??) throttle bodied v8 making 500lb torque--it lights up in every gear on steelies he said--- :cool:

his next project is to make an e30 escape the atmosphere :twisted:

Yeah, I remember hearing something about a rover engineer discovering a V8 prototype unwanted at the back of a GM factory - and so the rover V8 was born....

Tis' true indeed.
Apparently, GM didn't know what to do with it as it didn't figure in to their range of cars at that time, so it was just sitting in the corner of an American workshop waiting to be scrapped.
Along came a BL Engineer who thought it might be useful to the boys back in good old Blighty who were, at that point, just in the process of designing the Rover SD1.
The rest is history.

Rover had the V8 before the SD1 came to light... it was in the Rover P5 (3.5 litre and 3.5 litre Coupe), and in the Rover P6 cars... not to mention the early Range Rovers. 1967 saw the first V8 Rovers... SD1's came out in 1976.

Sorry... being a geek now.

Got one sat in the garage... contemplating putting it in the track car when the iS unit goes bang!

Had a 350bhp unit in an AC 289 rep that we built... was awsome! So lumpy though, not ideal for in town driving...

This one's just a standard 3.5 litre carb model... still should be good fun though.

this thread was of intrest to me as i am looking for an e30 for the v8 i have in the garage.it's the complete running gear of an e39 m5.i have engine, gearbox, complete loom, exausts, cooling, brain, pedal box. i also have a twin turbo kit somewhere in the garage for the rover v8

it's a janspeed kit. the turbo's sit on top of the exaust manifolds,then there's a pipe that bolts onto the inlet manifold,where the carbs normally sit, the carbs then bolt onto the inlet side of the turbo's.

no it doesn't foul the steering ,kit was mint when i bought it for Ԛ£500 two years ago, but since then my brother butchered the one turbo to fix his cozzy, so i put the kit in the corner of the garage and forgot about it , the turbo's are rotamasters, american and crap as the internal's are to heavy and only went to about 10psi. the kit would be better off using two t3's

I think i'd give the turbo's a mis though as you will strugle to get the standard M5 power down. 8)

the rover v8 isnt as easy to tune as you might think altho it is lovely and light which is a massive bonus!

Not to say you cant get some good power out of them tho!!

that thing must go like nothing else on the planet! the m5 engine is all alloy and weighs less than an e46 m3 six.

what a good job too, cats and everything by the look of it. although it doesn't help when i glance out the window and see my patchwork e30 with red, black and gold bodykit!

damnit, must try harder to do a proper job of things!
