Living with a lowered e30

How do you manage? I'm currently running stock Mtech springs, and I struggle on a daily basis, I scrape on speedbumps and regularly rip my splitter off. I'm massively craving drop (nothing massive, just 40mm or so) but I'm worried it will make the car undrivable 8O

Im ok on 35mm h+r springs with e90 top hats on the front and thick rear spring pads around here? Thats with a 24v sump too.

I always scrape soomewhere in the middle of the car. Exhaust?

I'm thinking something about this: what height is it approx?

-15 standard mtec shouldn't give you that much hassle, what tires are you using?

^ that looks like 60.40

40mm drop on my sport with the lower 24v sump had no problems. Caught the exhaust a few times, but nothing major.

I've hit the centre of the car somewhere on the infamous south devon college speed bump (i swear its an illegal height!) and thats about it really. That doesn't look much different to my ride height tbh

My cabbie is on M-tec springs, and I have yet to ground it.
You must have seriously high speed humps in your area,I would complain to your local highways agency!

Running 15" BBS with 50 profiles. Seems to be the centre exhaust box that is catching most. Especially with passengers in the back. The M42 sump is also rather battered...

Hmm maybe it's just the speedbumps... It's only really those horid yellow&black plastic ones that do it!

I'll get the car in the air and check the exhaust is hanging properly, it may be loose...

The 50 profiles won't be helping, but it shouldn't be that bad. Going slow over speed bumps is something you have to do if you want a lowered car.

Just a thought, do you have all the exhaust supports fitted?

That's what I'm gonna check. I go as slow as possible, maybe I'm too fat

What's wrong with the 50 profiles? I thought I was supposed to have 45s on the 15s? What is supposed to be on there?

if they are 195/50/15's change them for 205/50/15's... car will feel a little odd at first but i think they are a good size 8)

This is perfection. 60/60 on 16s? I think I'd struggle...

-60mm, as above with passengers in the rear.
Contemplating an 'is' front lip, but worried about it getting ripped off on regular basis, because of the amount on speed bumps around these ways.

205/55 is the correct size for 15s. 205/50s are fine, although the car will be lower which adds to the problem.

205/55/15s on the touring, will be running 205/50/16s soon, but not really expecting any positive difference. It's all good as long as speed bumps are respected.

205/50/16s are a fraction bigger than 205/55/15s - about 1% bigger, so there should be no real difference, other than a slightly firmer tyre wall.

60/60 on 16's and a tech 2 wasnt any drama really, didn't really slow too much for bumps, just took them diagonally..

That car is 60/40 too.. (see my sig!)

I'm running 60mm alround on 16s. Just gotta take speed bumps slowly and avoid pot holes

The small speed bumps are the worst, you cant really go over them in a lowered E30 unless you put one sides wheels over the hump

^ I shit myself going over them on on the sports standard set up even though i know it will make it with ease! So use to rolling 60/55 on the previous e30s that im just too paranoid.

If you're 60/60 you need special shocks am I right? Whereas normal shocks are fine for 40/40?

When my frontlip was on, it spent more time in the boot from being ripped off, it now hangs nicely above my desk where I work.. :?

35mm all round and it's not too bad I do get the occasional scrape, although my front shocks are inackered.

As for speed bumps, it's got to the point where I'd rather stick to the main roads and contend with the traffic instead of speed bumps..

Yeah 60mm I would suggest the shocks to cope with it. Myself I'm running bilstein b8s

Yes that's right.

Sounds like your exhaust might be a bit low. It's hard to tell from the pictures.

You just have to go painfully slow over bumps when it's lowered.

I just get kinda used to it now. I'm running an m52 and have the e28 M5 mounts with 10mm spacers to raise the engine up a bit more but the only think I have sump troubles with is the speed bumps about a foot long and like 4-5 inches high so I just take them really slowly... they're only usually in the odd carpark like at my college.
Other speed bumps tend to catch my exhaust up to my midbox quite badly so I try and take them with as much an angle as possible to ease any contact with the ground.

I wanna drop mine but im pretty sure it aint got power steering it will be a bitch to park if i slam it. Did all e30's come with power steering or was it an option? Mine could just be broken?
