Hi All,
I recieved below from the BMW CC E30 Register today, thought i'd post it on here as it will be of interest. Don't forget to click on the link in your email to verify the E-petition. Apologies if this has already been circulated or if I have posted it in the wrong section.
E-petition ”“ Responsible department: Her Majesty's Treasury
Restore a rolling 30 year-old exemption to VED, for classic vehicles
Re-introduce a 30 year rolling vehicle excise duty exemption scheme, for classic vehicles.
For too long now the tax exemption of classic cars has been frozen, to only apply to those
manufactured before 1973. History did not simply stop in 1972. These are not cars which
are driven everyday but rather on sunny weekends, to attend enthusiast shows etc.. It is
vitally important that we help to preserve this important part of British motoring history.

Hmmm, this was posted last year some time, not doing great by the look of it.

Needs 100,000 signatures before parliament will even consider mentioning it.

And not much longer either

Because most 25 year old vehicles are scrap, so I assume they're not wanting all the riff raff included. Plus there are a lot less 30 year old cars on the road than 25 year old cars so they'll hope it will come back into affect as it wont take much of the revenue away from the government...
I may be wrong though

I signed this a few months ago, maybe November
In that time it's only gained 7000 signatures
It needs 100,000 before its heard in the commons and debated.
This needs a daily bump on as many forums as possible, Facebook twitter etc
Car mags need to push it, link it to their web sites and generally give this as much exposure as possible

Which also means they'd be far more likely to get enough signatures for it to have an effect.
We have one vehicle that's already exempt, one in daily use that's 25 this year, an e30 that's 23, and I very much doubt either will still be here, or used often enough for a couple of months tax to make much difference in 5 or 7 years respectively.

I heard last month that the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs, had decided not to pursue this for the time being. Due to the economic conditions at the moment.
As I understand it they are going to wait for a more suitable time before trying to lobby for this again.
Given that they are one of the largest groups representing classic motoring, I can't see it getting through even if the required signatures are reached.

bunch of tossers
it can go through and they can agree a suitable time for it to come into place
