go without them, gives the front and rear a cleaner look

Much nicer with!
No need to drill holes in the plate with the backing plates.

I'd have to say neither option is worth the fines/hassle with the police, but if forced to fit them then backing plates would be present

Never had a fine or hassle from the police. Only ever bought it up when i was stopped for not having my seatbelt on...but he thought the D was for Denmark, when his colleague stopped laughing at him they both thought they was cool plates and 'advised me to get normal ones made'
If your that worried get normal plates made up, leave them in the boot and change if your pulled over.

and dont forget to change them when the car goes for the mot or you are likely to fail the test

Cheers Nadz.
This is mine (again!), I haven't got one with the plate showing at the rear though, but it's the same design as the front, but in yellow, wish I'd gone for white now though.

Depends on the tester... mine passed OK !
I like the backing plates generally, but they can look to cluttered on some cars, fit and find out.

that looks ace, just what i wanted to picture.
did you remove the original plastic frame/plate that goes behind the number plate?
like this on my car
from your pic looks like it has been removed (or maybe different on the m3's from factory) but just would like to confirm it?
thanks.
