Power steering woes

I think paranoia has set in. 
Driving my 318i Touring, the steering is unnaturally light and gets quite scary to drive fast on country roads because it's hard to point it were I want to because of the lightness. Could say it's quite vague also.
Not changed the power-steering fluid but had a poke and it's a nice purple. Could it be a slight blockage in the lines causing high pressure? The tyres are at the correct pressure checked every month and plenty of tread. Could it also be bushes or something of that nature? Although had a look around and they don't look too bad. But take that with a pinch of salt as I had a quick nose without raising the front.
