Did the 318is come with lsd diffs from new

No. Option only.

Just sold my i.s that had an LSD but as mentioned it was an optional extra not standard equipment.

It was a fairly cheap option on any E30, but sadly, the type of person who bought them new 'back in the day', generally wouldn't have known a LSD fro their left elbow.
The only UK models that left the factory with one as standard were the M3 and the 325 sport.

I have had some very well optioned/morsel laden IS's.. sadly none have had the LSD box ticked

An LSD was only a £100 option on the supercharged MINI cooper S, but I bet only a handfull of people ordered them.

Sadly image and bragging rights are considerably higher up the list when choosing a new car than driving dynamics.
