Hi all,

thought id give my car a spark plug and oil change today to take advantage of the good weather, only hit 1 little problem.....

Image

as i was jacking it up (in the right place before you start) the floor just gave way, the mat that covered the carpet looked new so when i moved it, i saw the carpet was soaking wet and thought what the?? the sponge had soaked up as much as it could so there was a little lake on the passengers side, once i removed the carpet there was just fiberglass, think the previous owner had the same problem but negleted to say and just tried to fiberglass the gap... what a horrible mess.......

Booked into a welder to get a panel on so hopefully that should sort it. trying to stay positive

When you say "jacked in the right place" do you mean the little metal square on the front corner of the floorpan?

Sorry, these aren't jacking points at all. They were just pads for the robots to move the shell around the factory.

Although that info doesn't help you much now that the hole's there, but this is one of the Top 3 Rust Spots on an E30. Happened on my own car too: http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... 70#2250870

You'd better get a screwdriver out and start poking around the other rust spots too...

josh you could be standing at the top of a very slippery and expensive slope.

Whats the other side like in the same place ?

Pull the glovebox out and check where the loom comes through into the car as well.

Good luck.

Anything is fixable if you have the time, patience and cash.

Before you spend any money on it you really need to assess the whole car - get the carpets out of the boot and check out the state of the inner arches/rear suspension mountings - IF its all good here you stand a chance. If its rotten unless you are a skilled bodyworkist you need to be looking for a better shell :(

thats where mine went aswell. i thought that corner was fine. realised the matt was damp, lifted it up, 4 inches of water and a 3 inch hole in the floor
