1 owner from new

i drove to my girlfriends last night and after 1 year I never noticed her next door neighbors 318is in red.

naturally, i went a quizzed her about it.

It's garaged everynight and driven once a week.
she is in her early 60's and has owned it from new in 1991.

as it has only been driven the mileage is 52,000 and has only ever been serviced by bmw.

she told me that when march rolls round, she'll be buying a honda jazz(like every oap, it must be the feature in an oap mag or something) because she needs a car with air con,
we haven't discussed price but i will without a doubt be buying it from her to keep until the day I die, without insulting her, what would be a fair offer?

I think £3500

like i said 1 owner, immaculate, never been parked outside overnihgt.

£1000 - she isn't to know the value! Nor will the dealership offer her more than £500.

Not fancying the Alpina rep now?

52,000 mls and one owner does not guarantee that it's solid.

If she's been using it every day it's been exposed to road salt etc during the winter so I'd be surprised if it is rot free.

If she goes to trade it in they'll offer her a grand and that'd be my starting offer.

Also, tell her to change it before the snow arrives or you may be going to Copart to buy it after she wraps it round a lamppost.

well i didn't want to mug her off but i think i'll rethink my offer now!!!

there was a chap in scotland with a white one on here a while back with 60k and her wanted around the £4.5k mark for it didn't he? that's why i though 3500 was fair........

she knows i'm having it so hopefully she won't do her research first!!!

I still like the alpina rep too, just need to get shot of the neon first and i'll happily have both i think i'll ebay that, got bored of the 1.8 auto.

dom, personally i'd ask the owner what she considers to be a fair price
first. Then go from there.
£3500 seems like a fair price, hard to say without actually seeing the car, but
no point offering more than the owner wants.

Not advocating ripping off pensioners btw, and don't be fooled into thinking
that because the owner is in her 60"s and a woman, that she is not fully compos mentis.
Not that you sound that you do think that way. :thumb:

She will get buttons for it as a trade in. Most of these old dears will go to Arnold Clark or alike and she'll get offered next to nothing.

I asked about trading my 325 cab against a brand new Megane RS250, the offered me £200 as they said it would go straight to the scrappies and not even the auction house.

Ended up trading the wifesType R instead and as it was only 3 years old got a good price for it.

as long as she doesn't sell it to old colenel cars for them to sell on at an extortionate price then i'm happy.

She sounded pretty switched on and from what it sounds like she won't take peanuts for it.

I think it's be hard to find one that's this cared for that's right on my doorstep and with petrol priced going the way they are a 6pot is not looking to attractive to me anymore!

i went to look at a one owner metallic black, non sunroof, 2 door, 70K mile 318i 2 weeks ago with my mate (he has a 325i Sport) from the outside the 318i was a minter! but, no footwell corner's, no rear inner arch (fuel filler side) under the towing eye was rotten as was the boot pocket behind the tow-eye and with no MOT or TAX and the owner said "anything over £1K and it's a deal" my mate said.. i was thinking £100 :D needless to say we left without the E30.

FBMWSH and one owner is all very well but if it's a rotten turd, it's still a rotten turd. Don't offer anything until you've looked up her skirts. (the car).

£3500 is alot of money to hand over, i'd be fully checking it over, like Morat said... Its all good with the low millege, FBMWSH but until you've checked it over for Flintstone's style holes underneath, its worth a few hundred... She may be switched on but I would still be offer as little as possible...

Start off, with, how much would you like for it? She may say, 'Ooo, £500?', which I would then try to knock off £100 and meet somewhere in the middle... She may be a greedy old cow though and want 5k

the dealers will only offer £200.00 to £300.00 max for an old shed, so you could say offer her £400.00 for it and take the gamble its a good un

Have a good look around it and if it's nice, offer £1000. But stress to her that whatever the dealer offers, you will beat - within reason. They may well offer £2000 just to do the deal and get a new car shifted. Tell her to get a price for the Jazz without a p/x as well.

She's swapping her E30 for a honda jazz....she cant be that switched on!

She'll be expecting peanuts for it, so i reckon £400 and go up from there [if you have to!]

I feel like a nutcase now!

must be too nice for my own good............

I'll knock at her door tomorrow morning and sort something out, i'm gonna try and convince her that she's bound to crash it this winter if the weather is as bad as last year and to buy a jazz immediately, offer her £500 and be on my merry way........

that's in an ideal world all day long.

Bet she thinks its worth nothing. Ask her how much the last service was and offer her that back. You got plenty to go up with.

Wise words
Id also guess her son or grandson has already been on the case to what the cars worth on ebay and pistonheads especially being a 1 owner chariot
Tread carefully as mentioned above

It all depends on the car!

If it is totally rot free then pay whatever the dealer offers plus a sweetener. Just because it's low mileage doesn't mean it's mint.

where abouts are you? if its been down south and not been pranged it won't be rotten, i'll put money on it not being a pig at all with that milege. E30s don't rust for fun like some on here would have you believe, but neglected northern sh!t does rot badly. Thats above Watford to be clear.

You won't find palm trees in Derby.
