Hi all has any1 owned a 316i touring during the snow. As im dreading it

Yes... I couldn't get off my drive most days, and when I did, I struggled to get down the lane, then at the end of the lane there was a hill... I didnt get into work much last winter

Me too.

Worth a look at some winter weather forecasts. If you believe them, it's going to be a bad one.

There's a few others to look at but essentially both the nature watchers and the meteorolgists are saying the same thing, and it's not pretty.

I'm looking forward to putting on the winter wheels and tyres I bought from Z3I

325 Touring was fun until it all went very badly wrong.
318is will not be out in it this year.
A Honda C90 works well

this is wat worried me i saw a similar report aweek bk.

Winter tyres and something heavy in the boot is the solution. This'll be the third winter for my touring, and if it can get through a Polish winter, then you've got nothing to worry about.

Just nip down B&Q and get a few paving slabs

14" wheels with good tyres will help.

I've got some VW golf steelies with, what I can only describe as mountain bikes tyres on, should be fun

I spent alot of last winter walking. At the time i had a citroen C2 Code- crappy car but quick in the dry. didnt fare so well in this:

I was ok in a 325 touring last year. It seriously surprised me by getting up a couple hills. The amount of new BMWs and mercs that were just spinning while I passed them with ease was ridiculous.

The 2 big B&W speakers in the boot helped a lot

I have and must say it served me well, my boss got stuck at work when half the roads up here were closed, but there was no way i was staying over at work and made it home no probs on 15"bbs with new toyo t1r's fitted

Seeing as my E30 was in for repairs last winter it missed out... although I'm sure it should be fun with m52 power and an open diff

I had a bloody e21 320 manual with an open diff last year in all the snow.. I'm going to buy some winter rims this week and put the standard suspension back on.. I'll be interested to see what it's like with my rebuilt slipper!

The girlfriend has the 330 now so she needs a car to do my shopping and picking me up from the pub, hence the need for a set of winter steelies for her mobility.

My (E36) 316i touring ran all through the Scottish winter without any problems - I didn't miss a days work. This year, I'm going FWD for the winter months, with a Honda Civic Aerodeck

I'll have winter tyres to go on but will probably stick to the bike as all the other muppets get stuck in the way.

I love the snow, hope we get loads again this year has looooads of fun in the 318is last year.

Had plenty of excuses to be late for work, was pretty fun on corners and empty car park spaces.

i even love digging the turd out if it gets stuck Bring it on

Only difference this year is i'am going to invest in some steelies.

should be fun in an Auto too

Definately, I make my burd suffer with an e36 318iS, and its the m42 too

As for snow..

Man up- you'll be fine.

the 320 and 325 were never too bad in the PROPER snow up here- care and concentration were the key..


the 535i sports should be a hoot though

I'd never got into trouble in all the years I've had the sport, never been stuck or had to dig out the car. Last year saw me fit snow tires to a spare set of BBS and they were great. I was considering putting them on this coming weekend before the weather hits.

I'm always hearing people complaining about how crap such-and-such a car is in the snow, not a single one had the right tyres.

I invested in a set of steelies and some winter boots on the Audi last year and the difference was incredible. The only problem is when everyone else is stuck you still can't get anywhere.

i picked up some turbines for the e39 with balloon winter dunlops and 7mm of tread

BTW, winter tyres with 4mm or less tread will not be that great in the snow

They are also brilliant on the typically cold and wet roads we get for the majority of the winter.

below 4 degrees they are better than an 'all season' or 'summer' tyre but they are not ice proof

No they're not much good on ice but apart from studded tyres there isn't much that will be.

As others have said its all about the tyres. I had some yugoslavian no make tyres on my old 316 and it was lethal in anything but dry conditions.

Neither are balloon tyres
Narrower the better
