A bit of info please

Hi everyone,
Bought this a few week ago with the intention of tidying it up and using as a daily driver (maybe an engine conversion when i've done the research).
Its a 320 and thats about all i know about it. I think its been lowered, and maybe the wheels aren't standard.
What can you guys tell me about it? Is it pre facelift?
Also, i need a new drivers seat. Does the interior have a name i should be searching for?
Hope these pics work, Photobucket is new to me too

that looks like a lux model,
nice carpet with pop out rear windows it should have coded bumpers and mirrors imo
you have the correct amount of doors

I think the bumpers might have been colour coded once upon a time.
Is this type of interior easy to get hold of? The driver seat is wrecked, but the rest of the interior is in great condition.

my first e30 had the same all black bumpers i'm sure they only came on some 88 to 89 cars, I prefer them like that tbh, gives an excellent contrast

Very nice looking e30! Front looks very low, even lower than mine which has -60mm springs on the front with a heavy m30 lump under the bonnet

Yeah they are comfort seats in grey & black. I have a full set which i may consider breaking.
Those wheels are standard e30 15inch bbs wheels, which look great on your car.. I actually really like the look of your car, looks nice and pretty clean!
Welcome to the E30 scene!

Cheers Aj.
I picked it up from Gloucester, drove to see my sister in Herford, and then home to Skipton and i was great.
Would be very interested in the interior if you decide to sell.
Its missing the original radio too, what should i be looking for there? anyone know the code for that?

Ain't no Lux.
Lux's were late 4 cylinder saloons which had colour coded bumpers and mirrors, 14" BBS or bottle tops, shadow line trim, rear head rests, unique trim, cut pile carpet from a 6 pot, manual sunroof, 6 button OBC, 62 litre fuel tank and front fog lights.
There were also late 4 pot Lux cabrio's and tourings but the spec was different to the saloons.

Its a post september '87 facelift 320i 2dr saloon.
Alpine white 2 with Anthracite cloth (6 cylinder type diagonal stripe)
Looks to be lowered 60mm front and 40mm rear, the wheels are 15" BBS and were an option available to all E30's, standard on some.

All E30's original audio equipment was dealer fitted when the cars were PDI'd (pre delivery inspection) and the could have been one of many available at the time.
The only way to find out was was ordered for the car when new if if you have the original purchase order sheet or sales receipt from BMW when it was new.
Have a look through this thread to give you an idea of what was available back then.

If your seat tilting mech is fine, you could locate a sound passenger seat to replace the damaged backrest/cushion on your driver's seat....it's a reasonably easy DIY job.
If you are not worried about the seat adjusting controls being on the 'wrong' side, just bolt the passenger seat straight in.
Welcome to the zone,BTW

Or to give your VIN (specifically the last 7 digits) to either a BMW Dealership or someone on here like CharlE30, and they will get the order sheet for you.
And the car's definitely an '88 - facelift front end but non-smiley headlights. I'm not a fan of white, but that's a very clean looking car. Nice buy!
Also, the passenger seat has already been swapped, hasn't it? It's got the tilting mechanism on the wrong side...

No,all 2 door cars have a second tilt lever in the middle of the car so that the driver can tilt the seat....

That will not work for audio equipment as it was all dealer fitted, not factory fitted.
The "sheet" you get from a BMW dealer is the build data which is available in "View data" form and "ASAP" form and both have varying levels of info.
For example, View data will list who the original selling dealer was but ASAP wont.
ASAP will list the build week, engine and gear box number, View data will not.
Neither of these will list dealer fitted items like Audio, mud flaps, floor mats, stripes, tow bars etc etc so as i said, the only way of truly finding out exactly what was ordered but the customer is the original purchase order sheet or customer receipt.
Both of which often go missing from the cars service history.
A copy of all 4 of the pieces of info i have mentioned is whats needed to make up a comprehensive list of info original to the car.
Luckily the View data and ASAP information can be obtained at any time by any BMW dealer if you give them the last seven digits of the chassis number but the sales receipt and original purchase order are like gold dust!

Cheers for the posts chaps.
I didn't even realise the wheels were E30 wheels. I love the look of them though. Whats size tyres should they have on them? Maybe its because its lowered 60mm, but the profile looks too big to me.
Is the colour coded spoiler a standard part too? I was toying with the idea of getting a rubber one that i'd seen advertised on here.
As for the radio, i'd just like a standard E30 radio to keep it looking standard inside. Not necessarily the exact one from my car.

looks very tidy, the black air ducts should be white and would look better white other than that doesnt look like a bad chariot

I noticed that every 2 door has one lever on the drivers seat and 2 on the passengers.
Would be wierd if some did and some didn't. I like the look of that e30, you won't need to do much more to its appearance.
+1 on the ducts to be white, possibly an IS splitter (in either white or black) and that will look pretty cool

It's so the driver can move the seat forwards for passengers getting in

Ah ha!...Yeah the guy i bought it from said that he sprayed the air duct things black. I do plan to have the odd bits of surface rust sorted, so will get those done too.
I agree about the splitter too, will see if i can find a pic of one.
